It's all about engine restrictor sizes, engine size and boost allowed for turbodiesels. 5.5 l NA racing petrol engine vs. 5.5 l turbodiesel was far from equivalent, so 3.4 l NA racing petrol engine vs. 3.7 l turbodiesel is even further.
