My mother bought an '08 F150 King Ranch with a sticker of $44k. She's also wanted one of these Raptors. The good news is, it won't be much cost (relatively) if she decides to upgrade. Now I just have to wait for one to show up on our dealers' lot and we'll take it for a test drive.

It has a rear locker and a grunty V8, so it should do well in 4-low crawling. The main appeal of the truck seems to be higher speed offroading, so the gear ratios in the transmission are probably not geared very low, I would guess, judging by the impressive acceleration numbers. They might have geared the transfer case for 4L much lower then normal... I would hope.
$40k is pricey, but, I look at it this way. If you wanted to take a regular F150, then, buy the off-road parts, put the labor into it, then, end up with a warranty the dealer won't recognize because you've modded it to hell and back, this truck is a deal.
Do want btw! This would make an excellent insur...... zombie hunting vehicle.
