Ford F-150 Raptor: First Drive

$40k sticker price, yeouch.

My mother bought an '08 F150 King Ranch with a sticker of $44k. She's also wanted one of these Raptors. The good news is, it won't be much cost (relatively) if she decides to upgrade. Now I just have to wait for one to show up on our dealers' lot and we'll take it for a test drive.

PLEASE tell us about the test drive and the *cough* accidently trip offroad.

The WANT is strong with this one!

Put some spikes and guns on it and you will have yourself a pretty apt zombie-kill-mobil.

Yes it would soak those speed bump zombies up nicely.

Too bad there is no where to drive a car like that around here. We don't have any high speed trails.

With that suspension it would make a fairly decent rock crawler too.

^^^ Oh yeah it would. Maybe a bit long for some trails though.

I never read anything about crawl ratio on it? What kind of gears are in it? I would hope that first gear in the six speed automatic is nice and low.

gimme gimme

its like a bowler wildcat only probably more tolerable, cheaper and just as much fun

Fuck this thing. Now I could never be happy with the regular F-150 I was planning on getting. Oh well, I'd say it's at least $40k worth of awesome.

It has a rear locker and a grunty V8, so it should do well in 4-low crawling. The main appeal of the truck seems to be higher speed offroading, so the gear ratios in the transmission are probably not geared very low, I would guess, judging by the impressive acceleration numbers. They might have geared the transfer case for 4L much lower then normal... I would hope.

Not my cup of tea, but I can sense the awesomeness.

Awsome pics jetsetter. I'm like in awe at its sexiness. I would love to get one of these second hand--at least one that's only seen pavement. :D

I believe Ford has a 3.73 in the rear of it...

Although it is possible it could be a 4.10. I need my info brochure to actually check...

Edit...

Just Checked, 4.10 with the electronic Locker...

$40k is pricey, but, I look at it this way. If you wanted to take a regular F150, then, buy the off-road parts, put the labor into it, then, end up with a warranty the dealer won't recognize because you've modded it to hell and back, this truck is a deal.

Do want btw! This would make an excellent insur...... zombie hunting vehicle.
