Ford GT: The discussion

In the 2 pages of this forum, there is not a single post about the new Ford GT so i thought why not throw it out there.
The reason i bring it up is while i was in Europe, i picked up the Top Gear Mag and in July's issue it talks about the first GT tests in Europe on the Autobahn and how they found that the car was producing more HP then before after the car past the 5,000 mile mark (the mag said on the *low end* it was making 550hp and a ford rep would not quote the other numbers but said it was high) and getting top speeds of around 212MPH ( at Nardo, making it the fastest Ford production car). With the drive on top gear in the states with Clarkson (who btw has his name down for one) this is started to be a car that is more then an attempt to cash in on the who retro thing in the states.

All this from an American car company that most shun as a company that is only interested in selling oversized SUV's that can handel for shit.
And now they are making a car that, by some, are saying handles better then some of its European rivals. Cheap then cars in its category, like the 360 Modena, but could out do it.
So i am just interested in what some of you guys think of Fords attempt in to restoring some honor back to the ford badge.
 
Well it's certainly better than Eddie Bauer Excursions, t looks good, has good performance but heck even if it's tenths faster than a 360 and it costs less I would never EVER consider a Ford over a Ferrari! :roll:

and it's not only the name and image, the 360 looks much better to me, sounds a hell of a lot better even if the GT sounds good. It's a great car.. but competition is still better IMO.
 
And it's cheap too! You can buy a Nissan Micra with that to use for your shopping :D

I think I would buy the ford and for the money I saved on not purchasing a ferrari I would go to a trackday and buy some tyres to destroy

Id have to drive a 360 and a GT to beable to make a concrete decision. But, from first impressions its tied!
 
Ford will never have the same image as Ferrari. Most people who love cars prefer the image of Ferrari - an exotic supercar producer that puts passion into every piece they make, and Ford, a big, conglomerate carmaker that mass produces SUVs and pickups. There really isn't much comparison. I think that people who truly appreciate cars ignore numbers when they pick their favourite car / brand.
 
even though the Ford beats the GT in every performance category Ford could never beat Ferrari as a brand. thats where the GT loses.
 
When it comes to supercars, I could care less about what brand a car is. If it's fast, it's fast. If I were in the market for a supercar (never would happen, but if, I would buy the car that has the performance I would want regardless of the brand.

To bastardize the words of Getrude Stein: a fast car is a fast car is a fast car.

this might destroy and enzo, carrera gt and even mclaren in terms of performance but who the fuck wants a Chrylser supercar??

and the looks are horrible too!!

Conclusdion, Ford GT is great but i'd still take a 360 or 911 turbo over it.
 
^ I will agree with you that looks matter a lot, but I could really care less about brand.

So Ferrari's are just better because of there name? And a few cars they made in the past.. Oooo..
True Ferrari makes some GREAT cars today, and i think its only because of that they are still in the eyes of many people as a great car company.

But name cant just make you everything, its about the cars you build. Yeah, Ford, the company make some shitty cars.. But i feel under the new CEO, and the SVT team, ford has been able to keep the flame of performance first still there.
The SVT Cobra Mustang is actually a great handling car, with IRS... its just not talked about because everyone remembers the Ford Mustang GT with its live rear that sucks! And with the new Mustang announced, SVT, maybe with the help of Shelby, can make a mustang that really grips the road.
Ford made Ferrari fall to there keens with the GT in the 60's, and i think they will again. Its a great car, that happens to be a Ford.. Boohoo..
True, you might like Ferrari the company over Ford.. Great, i ride a Harley over Jap bikes that some might say are better (and they are in many areas), but give credit where its due.
