wonder how ariel could turn the atom into a Grand Prix car / superkart....

...give it a CF monocoque to get the weight around 200 kg (or under), a smaller, lighter, much higher-revving (16000+rpm) 4-cylinder engine (possibly derived from a motorcycle) capable of over 350 BHP, very short (think F1) exhaust system, grooved slicks, bigger bi-plane front and rear aerofoils, central driving position, an even quicker steering rack, carbon brakes, sequential gearbox (from a superkart), sidepods, huge cooling vents, ground effects possibly (diffuser, flat bottom, under 50mm ground clearance?), maybe even fan-assisted aerodynamics for (low-end grip) or no suspension at all (like a superkart)?

can it be done.... is it drivable.... could it last a day?

so take an ariel atom, replace the framework with a CF monocoque, change the engine to a motorcycle engine, add aero, center driving position single seater?

so what you end up with is:

congratulations, you've made a formula hayabusa. How would an Atom remain an Atom after all those changes you've propsed? It wouldn't, you'd end up with another formula class.

Why? Is a 3 second 0-60 time too slow? Is 500 kg too heavy? The regular Atom is far too much car for most people to handle. Besides, carbon fibre, a bigger engine, and more bodywork makes a much more expensive car that cant be that much quicker, and with all that other stuff you mentioned, wont be street legal anyway.
