Forums have been upgraded to vBulletin 5

Me too.

I'm happy to help as a user as well.

This is probably super unhelpful, but may as well mention it: over the years I've wanted to build my own forum software several times. However, the undertaking is pretty immense, and there's effectively no money in it, so I never have. I'd be down to build a custom FG webapp, but on a different stack and without the requirement of importing all the old content. That last part is what I think makes this untenable for many (most?) folks.

xenForo is new to me, on a first glance even as a default config it looks closer to what we used to have. I'm all for it, because this honestly feels like a dead end.

This works as it should for me. Using Firefox both on PC and Android phone.

Ok! So I cleared my cookies and cache and all that and it worked! The little blue button takes me to first unread instead of last!

BUT! Clicking the thread..... does not. For example

[IMG2=JSON]{"data-align":"none","data-size":"full","src":"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/B8RaKjP.png"}[/IMG2]

I clicked that.... a thread I have never been to before.... I expected to see the top post (with the poll). Nope, went right to the bottom to the last post.

Also, to what Thomas said, count me in for helping any way I can.

That link quite frankly goes to the last post, as the thread was not started by Cellos88GT, but by Ripplin.
What page is that screenshot taken of?

Various forums I have been using over the years migrated to XenForo in the more recent past.

I'm 100% open to migrating to a different forum software. The only reason we're using vBulletin is because it does what we want out of the box and doesn't require relying on a bunch of third-party plugins to get the functionality we need.

They also have their own vB5 importer, but it's in beta and is supposedly buggy.

The only issue is trying it out would cost $140. You can screw around with a demo on their site at https://xenforo.com/demo/ but we'd need to pay to get an actual test copy of our forum running.

Well, the headline of that column in the table is even called "Last Post"... ;)

Yeah, but thats what that column was called in vB4 too. Just pulled this off the Wayback Machine

It makes sense to tell you who posted last and when so you know if theres been any activity since you last visited, but it doesn't make sense to jump straight there.

Been playing with the demo, built a decent forum. I pretty good so far, still some similar issues to vB5, but overall much better. Now the question is how will it handle our 11+ year old database. I was going to also ask about theme availability, but I just found these two in 2 minutes

http://xf1.artodia.com/demo.php?demo...ark-responsive

...and there are dozens more sites with themes. In 5 minutes I found 20x as many themes as I did for vB5.

But yeah, I just sent some money for this. Would be up to help set it up and/or manage it too if that is needed.

Suggestion from my end: I would happily send the $140 right now out of the Ringmeet account, and whoever wants to chip in, can PayPal or wire it to the known Ringmeet accounts. Any objections? Primarily from people with Ringmeet a affiliation .. :)

Scratch that asking part. I am making an executive decision here and am going to send him said funds. Aforementioned invitation to chipping in stands. Ringmeet@gmx.com is the PayPal address, in case the ancient donation mockup in my dog does no longer work (it was never really used anyway).

Those two themes strike me as basically perfect for the "oldschool FG" theme and a dark equivalent.. And while they're $35 reps. $29 ontop of the software $140, I'm sure we can handle that. Also, where did you send the money to specifically? I thought I had Alex's Paypal somewhere but couldn't find it (lazy) and just texted him asking for it.. :D

Duh! So blind.

I threw $150 from the Ringmeet Account his way, so with that, redliners $10 and whatever you sent, we should be approaching the forum software itself and at least one if not both linked themes. And I will buy the dark theme myself if need be, just for my eyes sake! :p
