Forza Motorsport 3

Seven new environments.

Still, nowhere near close to 87, and I am guessing that is counting the track(s?) that were taken out of the second game.

Maybe my copy will be in at work tonight and I will have something to do during this long weekend.

Hey, it's marketing, they all do it.

I'm a GT fan and this is looking to be a fun game to play.

Fun factor is what matters most to me in a game, which has been lacking a little in GT of as late, but I'm sure GT5 hopefully will make me think otherwise.

So, I decided to look at that Sony Defense Force site.

Wow, this is what they did. They cherry picked the negative in some of the reviews. I will show you what they picked out, then, show you the score that review gave the game over all.

?Forza 3 is easily outclassed by the excellent damage modeling of DiRT 2 and even Need for Speed: Shift. Specifically, cars tend to sport the same generic ?scratch? and ?scuff? textures when they?re hit, and dent deforming seems limited, as well.? ? 1up

1up.com: A- Considered "excellent" by their standards.

?For a game so dedicated to all things automotive to slip in the cockpit is seriously disappointing, and part of what I see as a larger problem with presentation.? ? Gamespy

Gamespy: 4.5 out of 5 Considered "great" by their standards.

?The game comes with a second disc filled with 100 more cars and 29 new tracks. That?s nice. However, it requires a 2GB install. Those without HDs are screwed?? ? Games Radar

GamesRadar: 10 Considered "Incredible" by their standards
.

?Visual car damage might also be an issue for some, with the damage model used here nowhere near as dynamic as that found in the likes of Burnout Paradise or DIRT 2? ? VideoGamer

VideoGamer: 10 Considered a "Masterpiece" by their standards.

?Cockpit views are modeled for each car, but they aren?t quite as stunning as in Need for Speed SHIFT.? ? GameTrailers

GameTrailers: 9.2 out of 10

?The car interiors too, disappointingly, look a bit too grey and plastic-y. Forza 3 certainly doesn?t live up to Gran Turismo in the in-game visual stakes.? ? CVG

CVG: 9.0 out of 10

What a sad, sad bunch SDF is.

I don't want to buy FM3 because my expectations are too high. I feel I'm just going to be disappointed...

So that fuckink retarded AI reving intro thing is staying for the drag race mode.

WHAT IN THE GODDAMN FUCKING ASS HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE SHITHEADS!!!!

I was soo pumped for this game. i preordered the limited edition the day it become avalible and the more and morei learn about this game, the more i am dissapointed.

Just a handful of new cars and tracks compared to what was in FM2. Oooo, 100 different racetracks. Too bad 20 of them are those shitty snake tracks. fuck-a-doodle-doo

All this auto breaking, rewinding, pandering to the retards that cant drive.

Shitty half done cockpit views.

Switching the high res ultra sexy photomode models for jaggy low res models for the races.

Come on Turn 10. why couldnt you have grown some balls and told M$ to fuck off with their Oct 09 release date and taken the time to make a complete game.

/rant.

Sorry. recent news has made me cranky. Im still going to buy this game day 1 and play the shit out of it. I just wish it didnt seem like Forza 2.5

^why I probably won't buy it at all. Hopefully GT5 won't be so half assed. For now I'll stick to Need For Speed (WTF?!)

I think they've done quite a bit for the 2.5 year turnover. Interiors, have a good selection of cars, more tuning, more painting, more tracks. The Storefront and online are completely overhauled. Wheel with a clutch support. Sure I wish we got dynamic weather and more cars on track but I think this game is pushing the Xbox to it's limits and we've hit diminishing values until Turn 10 gets some beefier hardware.

2.5 years only for those improvements? I too expected too much from this game and even if i love the Forza series, I think know that GT5 will seriously kill this game... if when it comes out.

1 point I really want to stress on is the way Turn10 focuses on realism. If you want realism, you not only have to make it FEEL real, but also LOOK real. Yeah high res my ass... but the LIGHTING SUCKS. Makes Forza look like a cartoon when compared to GT5.

I believe this is a half-finished game aka Forza 2.5. I'd still buy it because of the limited new features, but I just can't help but feel that I'm going to be disappointed when I start playing this game because I expected so much from Forza and Turn10. Heck, GT5 gets Rally, NASCAR, AND FORMULA 1....What do we get??? Recycled tracks from forza 1 & 2 (fujimi kaido comes to mind). Why not design the togue that BEST MOTORING uses for their battles the same way GT5 modeled the Top Gear Test Track on their game.

I'm sorry... just another rant from a disappointed forza fan.

When I play need for speed shift, I don't spend hours endlessly tuning or creating artwork on cars. I just drive. I drive because it is so intense and so exciting in ways no other game has ever approached. The framerate, textures, and actual models may not be as impressive as FM3, but the overall presentation and conveyance of actually sitting in a race car is unparalleled. When you play Fm3 it's like watching a high quality video recorded from roughly the driver's perspective. When you play shift, you feel like you ARE the driver. The ambiance created by the sound, motion effects, physics (flawed as they might be) and driver movement immerses you 100%. I simply cannot get into Fm3, nor any console racing game anymore.

And I'd be willing to bet PD paid out big for all three of those. I know the Nascar license isn't cheap, and I'd be willing to bet the house that F1 is even less so. Despite how well Forza is doing, the fact is, Turn 10 just isn't as big nor has the resources of PD.

On the subject of this being "Forza 2.5", you're omitting all the work they've done on the paint shop, the auction house, and the new online shops.

Yeah, I'd love to see Mid-Ohio or Virginia in the game, and I could go on for weeks why they should drop the 30,000 different Skylines and Evos for more selection, but this is what the Forza community wants.

I'm only half-complaining. Yes, there's too much left out that I want to see, but it's a new game that I'll waste countless house on.

Just because I'm curious, does either FM3 or GT5 have a Tesla Roadster in the games? Just curious...would love to know how they handle the sound, and the sound of the other cars near it...

Problem is, not every one buys a racing game to paint a pretty picture on the side of their car. So the work they have done on the paint shop is pointless to me.

I was a bit surprised at that statement, since for me the Forza series is distinctly lacking in the 'variations' department.

There is no Evo III or IV, both of which are legendary cars in their own rights and certainly deserve inclusion. Forza 2 never even had an R33 Skyline GT-R, let alone an FR version of all three (of the recent ones, R32/R33/R34) despite the FR's being hugely popular cars.

Forza 3 doesn't even appear to have an AE86 Levin (from the car list I read anyway, correct me if this is wrong) which is certainly a travesty in itself given how legendary that car is.

It's not just about Japanese cars either, they miss out a huge variety of cars that certainly deserve inclusion.

I'm still waiting to see a Sierra Cosworth in one of these games, but since none of them seem capable of even putting in the Escort Cosworth I don't hold out much hope. These are two legendary cars that certainly stand out and would be a great addition to any driving game.

They have an EG6 in Forza 3, but it's only a 1.5 litre engine and whilst I'm not a huge expert on Civic's, I'm relatively sure that the best EG6 has a 1.6 litre B16A engine. To not include that car with that engine baffles me, especially since visually it's essentially identical.

I'm sure similar things could be said about some of the American cars they've missed out, or not included important versions of.

As for the countdown rev thing, I will certainly be annoyed if it remains the way it is for the final game. If you must have the fancy view changes to show of your pretty modeling skills then at least give us full control of the revs for those three seconds.

I won't be that disappointed if it doesn't make it, even fully modded (in game and in real life) they're fairly average cars.

What I meant, was why have one version of a Skyline, and then a similar version that doesn't really have any advantages. Like a Skyline R34 GT-R V-spec. So why does there need to be the R34 GT-R V-spec II? I didn't mean there shouldn't be previous generations of the Skyline or Evo, just there shouldn't be similar-but-somehow-different versions of the same generation. Besides, I've always been slightly angry that they'll include the R32 and R34 but skip out on my favorite Skyline, the R33.

maybe because some people who actually own these cars would actually want to drive them in the virtual world however few they may be... or simply maybe you fancy driving that particular version over the other? ... or maybe match both of them up in a race and see the difference of one over the other?

well, yeah true. but I didn't buy forza3 to paint. I bought it to race. I only use the paintshop 1% of the time. I choose a good color for my car, maybe add a design or two, then that's it.
