The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a wonderful thing as it is, but for 2006, it has been further enhanced. Its V12 engine remains the same, but on a day-to-day note, it now comes with rear parking sensors so you don't ding that expensive rear bumper, a new radio/CD system with sat nav, Bluetooth and MP3 compatibility, and new instrument displays. The colour-coded leather trim now extends up to the headlining and side panels. New options include the GTC handling package - F1-style carbon-ceramic brakes, revised gearbox software and 19-inch split-rim wheels.
For the more competitive Ferrari fan, the F430 Challenge race car has made its debut. This has the same 490bhp V8 as the road-going F430 coupe, but adds the carbon-ceramic brakes, a modified gearbox and 19-inch slick tyres; its weight has been reduced to 1225kg thanks to measures including a plastic windscreen, a carbonfibre engine cover and a new exhaust system. It has a mechanical, rather than electronic, differential, and a mechanical brake-assist system rather than EBD; its stability and traction control have been disengaged, as have ABS and skid control. Inside, there is a quick-release steering wheel with buttons for radio contact with the pit crew. Other ready-to-race touches include a modified grille, anti-roll bars, springs and single-rate shocks, and quick-release centrally-locking wheels with incorporated pneumatic jacks.
