Overheat

Roof specialist Webasto - developer of roofs for the Volkswagen Eos and Ferrari SuperAmerica - is displaying its range of sliding roofs, panoramic glass roofs and convertible tops in Frankfurt, and showcasing its latest technology in the Hattrick concept car. This is based on a Volkswagen Touareg, and features a full-length, two-part roof which runs from windscreen to tailgate. This has a fabric cover to provide shade over the two glass panels, and an electrically-operated, multi-functional tailgate as well as an extending cargo box. It is intended to show how heat can be reduced within a glass-roofed vehicle, though we're not quite sure why both glass sunroof panels and a canvas hood are needed. Webasto has also developed a new type of anti-splinter 'soft glass', and new transparent plastic materials for roof sections which could replace glass.
