Fraps not working

Long story short:
Was taking screenshots (in LFS) from a replay, was done, changed to another replay, LFS + PC crashed. Rebooted, all shots from the 2nd reply gone. Redid them, exit LFS, Fraps folder empty.

Now it's not doing anything at all. Can't capture videos, can't make screenshots nothing. Renistalled it, renistalled another version, to another folder... nothing. Changed hotkeys, no effect. Cleaned registry, reinstalled again, simply nothing is working. It doesn't even show FPS in the corner of the screen. And it's not only LFS, in other games it's the same. Even outside games it doesn't take screenshots.

Any idea what may have caused this?

no idea, but i know what can fix it

the almighty system restore ;)

don't pay attention to those who are to affraid to use it, it works fine, and solved every porblem i ever encountered

Weird.
If you have system restore enabled, that might be a good way to go.
If not, maybe being able to take screen shots is somewhat related to graphics drivers ( ) maybe try reinstalling graphics drivers / directx.

Obviously do some basic checks too, like check the hdd for errors, spyware / anti virus check and things like that.

Will PM you a link to another way to get screenshots.

The reason why I like fraps over prnt screen method for screenshots is that it's much faster. Just press hotkey, get all the shots done and that's it, instead of pressing prnt screen, switch to ps, paste, go back to lfs, make other shot, switch again etc.

MXM suggested that as well, but mmm, I need to "buy" a full version first. :)

Did you get this resolved?

No, and I'm relly pissed, because I can't find a program like Fraps. I need something simple for both video capture, and screenshots. :x

I tried what not to fix fraps, reinstalled hundred versions, clean registry...I think I'm gonna do a system restore this weekend if I don't get it to work.

^ Well I do because I want to back up all the stuff that I have downloaded since then, and that takes time to sort out and not forget anything. :)

Are you talking about using Windows System Restore or formatting your hard drive and re-installing Windows? The latter definitely takes longer, but sometimes it's your only option.

Windows System Restore. I read/was told (don't remember) that you loose all the data you have that's newer than the date that you want to restore things from. :dunno:

Does it only mess around with drivers/registry etc, or do you get your system + HDD to the same status that was at restore date?

i don't think system restore deletes a lot of file, i never had important files deleted because of doing it

and i'm almost sure it will not delete any files in your user documents folder or desktop

I haven't used it a whole lot (I usually re-install from time to time) but ti claims that you can do it "without causing you to lose recent work, such as saved documents" etc.

Hmmm. Meh, I'd rather be on the safe side and back up a few things before I do it. :)

That's the safest plan. If you have the oppurtunity to back the stuff up you might as well do it.

If this doesn't work, you may have to format the drive, which won't be that hard if you have everything backedup already.

I reformatted my machine last week, it took 2.5 full days to get everything backed up, updated and back the way I want it. (But I have a painfully slow connection, so the updates took forever)
After I uninstalled things I could uninstall, I got everything backed up on 5 DVDs (about 21GB).
Always fun to see the boot time slow down as you install more and more.

^ I really hate formatting/reinstalling. :yucky:

Last time I reinstalled windows was more than a year ago. I've been really carefull and nice to my computer since then, not installing unnecessary crap, keep everything clean, defragment drive on regular basis, do virus and adware scans to prevent crap from installing itself, and so far I never had problems, everything is smooth and loads quickly.

Except fraps that is. <_< No idea why the heck it decided to go nutts all of a sudden. :x

I think that was the first time I reformatted in more than 3 years.
