Thanks MixtriX, are there any catches that you know of?

I was wondering that too. You don't have to sign your soul away or anything like that, do you?

It does imply that it's ad free though.

Don't care... About to sign up ;-)

//edit:

Well, I signed up, and its doesn't have FTP... BUT a .zip upload system... Dunno if it extracts stuff then... Is mighty slow anyways...

I think I'm just gonna get paid hosting... 3 or 4 euros per month should provide me with the very little I need for my crappy party pics site ;-)

//edit no2:

What about http://www.advantagehost.co.uk/

They have free hosting as well... But only if you are from the UK...

Somebody want to join for me??

Buba

it's probably one of those things free for a few months then you have to pay

Buba,
I'm in UK, have been seriously considering getting host for the last couple of months now. Trying to decide between a couple but as you mentioned AdvantageHost, thought I'd have a look at them and what they have to offer. However, I found out how they do free hosting:

How AdvantageHost Works?

There are many free hosts around offering many different types of packages, so what makes AdvantageHost so different?

Most free hosts either put banners, popups or some kind of advertisement on their members pages to cover costs. Other free hosts are charities offering free hosting to selected sites, this can cause problems in funding and most shut down within months.

AdvantageHost doesn't use the usual methods, we simply require our members to signup to free offers to earn points. Then our members can use this points to exchange for hosting and free domains. Our system has been proven for over 18 months now and we are now hosting thousands of customers worldwide.

Currently we only offer our free services to the
United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.

Thanks to a few friends I already get enough junk email as it is. :thumbsdown: I don't think I'll be giving this company a shot, someone else can. However, you can try it if you're in different country too as they say... (Well, One of the others listed)

-Max

Edit: I've just looked at their paid plans (http://www.advantagehost.co.uk/hosting.php) - Think I may try one of them if I don't have to sign up for more junk, but tbh they look too cheap for that to be the case, will investigate more later and report back. Got loads of work to do first! :(

I just signed up for some german company... Its like 1,2 Euro per month for 200 MB of space + 8 gig transfer with 4 mysql dbs...

I only need one, I'll probably only use 1 gig a month, but that semed to be ok for me.

I have 100 MB on my university site, but its without php and mysql...

You know what your mom said about stuff being too good to be true. Most likely overloaded servers, overloaded connection, etc. etc. etc. + some hidden catches.

viper007bond.com runs me ~$13/month for 1000 MB storage + 50 GB rollover bandwidth (if you don't use all of your 50, it'll roll over to the next month). Nice and high quality bandwidth too and non-overloaded servers. 8)

HostRocket.com

Both of these are HR servers:

BTW, I got my site running on a temporary basis.. I would be interested in the loading speeds...

We shouldn't spam that thread , a pm would be good ;-)

Hostrocket is pretty cool. They are located about 15-20 minutes away from my house. I almost worked for them doing support, but luckily I found a better job directly related to my field.
