We love classic Jaguar E-Types and Minis, but which of the current crop of new cars are destined to become iconic classics? Aston Martin Vanquish or Alfa Romeo GT, anyone?

I think I had that exact picture of that Renault 5 Turbo haning over my bed when I was a kid.

I think the XJ220 is already a classic.

I have a feeling that the Ford Focus will be a classic. The styling is unique, and it looks better to me every day.

I would think that the Aston has a chance of becoming a classic perhaps, but I have doubts about the Focus :)

That bmw 2002 is laready pretty much a classic too. it was even on "Classic and sports car" list for the 100 best cars of the last century.

But we all know whats missing from that list:

:)

Most of the time is a quite rare or failed cars.

(i think the vel statis (big failure here in holland :) ) has a good chance, and so do smarts if they ever decide to stop that whole thing)

Somehow I don't see the new Mustang as a future classic. Its styling doesn't cut it for me but maybe others will disagree...

I can see cars like the mini, zonda, F430, renault5 and the DB7 being a classic.... but the mustang and the focus, there are just too common and they are nothing special to me... the BMW 2002 is already a classic though... I think I had the picture of the Renault5 as well

Of course all these Astons/Ferraris/Paganis will be some kind of classics because they are so rare and expensive. But also these little cars with souls (like Mini and Renalt 5 turbo) will be classics. I'm not so sure about the Focus or that Peugeot.

Or the VW R32, perhaps? Also, the Mercedes CLS.

I dont think the new mustang or focus will atain classic status...nor the Zonda or Enzo...cars like that never really get status as classics...one thing which i beleive is paramount for classic cars is they have to be cars lots of people interacted with...things people wnat because the dreamed about them in their childhood...or there dad had one...

so I submit my own list

Mazda RX-7 the original

That is really it for now.

basically i think that the common sports cars of the last 70s and early 80s are going to become collectors cars.

peugeot-205-gti.jpg

what the hell... how is this becoming a classic?

^leif... I agree with you that the Datsun 240Z would become a Classic but I don't see cars like the MX-5 becoming one... its just too common and there's nothing special... wherelse when the Datsun came out, it was beautiful, it still looks amazing when I see one once in a while :D

what about these...

audi quattro

mazda 323 gtx

the 240sx (180sx) no way.. the supra.. i don't think and mazda 323 looks like the renault, but usually japanese cars tend to be junk instead of classics, so i don't think so, unless ur a sucker to japanese cars, it could be a classic for you personally not to the world.. the e30 m3 is for sure a classic, quattro as well.

the thing about the MX-5 is that yes there are alot of them...and because of that...in about 10-15 years there is going to be a whole generation of adults who rode in them as kids with mom or dad...and who want to get that nostalgia back

its the same thing with my car and my brother...hes 40...and he was a teenager when the RX-7 came out in '79. and it was the same price as a new Corvette...so basically unatanable for a teenager. so now that I have one he is still exstatic about it...and remembers being a kid and wanting one.

thats what makes a classic.

sure kids want the lambo, but they probaly can never afford a lambo, the classics i submitted are realistic classics
