One of the world?s foremost aftermarket speed merchants, Uwe Gemballa, has gone missing in Johannesburg.
Gemballa, who?s Leonsburg-based tuning company is globally renowned for its outlandish (and record breaking) supercar conversions, has not been reachable since his arrival in South Africa last week.
Under the radar or missing?
Since leaving his native Germany last Monday on a business trip to Johannesburg, the 51-year old tuning legend has gone missing.
As a man usually in perpetual contact with his various customers on a day-to-day basis with regards to their respective custom cars, his sudden silence has been particularly vexing.
Curiously, Gemballa does not have a well known presence in the local market. One can only surmise Uwe was hoping to initiate contact with local distributors for his range of supercar go-faster kits.
German authorities are in contact with local police in an effort to locate Uwe and establish his safety. Due to the serious nature of the case, authorities are not divulging any of his original local travel plans.
Petrolheads the world over hope Gemballa is on a wildlife spotting jaunt of epic proportions, where mobile phone signal strength is negligible in some rural parts of South Africa. The converse would simply be unconscionable.
