General Anime Thread

Since you posted that I have listened to nothing else but that song on repeat on my iPod, when I'm not listening to it it plays in my head. This will never end, that song will NEVER LEAVE MY MIND.
I hope you're happy. [edited to unbreak quoting]
In other news I finished Azumanga Diaoh, why I didn't watch this sooner I don't know because it was great. Finishing it has left a hole in my heart, I was genuinely saddened at the prospect of no more episodes. Hell, I would probably watch 26 eps worth of Sakaki playing with cats if it was avaliable!

Also Nichijou never ceases to make me laugh, it can be hit-or-miss sometimes but as a whole it is a firm favourite.

I know I've said this before, but Ichigo Mashimaro really is in the same vein as Azumanga. It does get a bit sappy toward the end of the first season... I haven't watched further yet.

...and it was just wonderful! Out of all the Miyazaki films I watched so far, this is my favourite. I didn't really like Princess Mononoke (overrated); I really liked My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, but they are aimed at kids, so they can't really be compared to Nausicaa. Everything about it blew me away; the visuals, the music, the story, the characters, etc.

9.5/10, best Anime movie I've seen, not just Miyazaki's. :D

Well that ending was certainly heartwarming. still.

KYOANI. Y U NO MAKE SPINOFF WITH KOTOMI AS MAIN CHARACHTER.

and I still have like 3 bonus episodes to go.

Blood-C ep.9
What the hell is wrong with Clamp? This series is terrible. There are many times, not just in this ep but throughout the series, where Saya could've saved some of the people or her classmates if she just acted a little bit quicker. If Clamp wanted to show off the gore fest, at least make Saya late to the scene or being attacked by other lesser Furukimono. Another issue is, 9 eps in, we still don't know who the villain is, what's the promise, and what did Saya's mother do. I can see a lot of potential in the story, I love Clamp's character design, but the rest is just bad.

I loved Rayearth S1&2, X TV, Tsubasa Chronicles S1, and Code Geass (Clamp character design), so I generally like Clamp's work, but this show is just bad.

I've seen Tsubasa Chronicles mentioned in positive light a few times now, probably worth a look....

Tsubasa Chronicles season 1 was quite good, but season 2 started to drag on, the Tokyo Revelations OVA sucked.

Not to be grumpy old anime hipster, but yes Mononoke is pretty overrated IMHO and was the newest Miyazaki film for a whole new generation of Miyazaki fans. Nausicaa is a good film and even better manga but not really my fave. My personal favorite 'classic' Miyazaki film is Laputa: Castle in the Sky and the later 90s film Porco Rosso which kicks ass because it deals with post WWI biplanes, takes place in Italy and is romantic and cool as hell.

Steins Gate ep.24
So it finally ends. I was kinda disappointed that Kyouma's plan isn't more elaborate. But I guess with only 1 ep left they couldn't have done much. The whole thing about not changing what he saw could've worked, but he swapped out Mayuri's metal Upa, that will change what his past self's memory already. So that doesn't make sense to me. Other than that, it's a really happy ending. I guess this is the good end of the visual novel, instead of the true end (I'm guessing here, I didn't play the VN)

My younger sisters have become obsessed with anime recently, god knows why.

I really wish they weren't, so much anime is crazy and weird, especially to a Western culture. Lucky Star and Azumanga Daioh had characters who explicitly like high school girls ffs! Not to mention that even googling the names of anime can be a frightful business, the safe search does nothing!

This is made worse when my sister will bring stuff up at the dinner table:
"they all went go the beach in bikinis and stuff and compared breast sizes" (Because in every anime ever one of the characters is rich and has a beach house where everyone goes mid series.)
*Parents look at me*
"Hey, its not my fault just cause' I watched this stuff first! It's Japan's fault, them and their perverted otaku audience!"

Should have seen their faces when they saw a boobed mousemat at the Japanese/anime crap stall in Aberdeen, I threatened to buy it. T'was amusing. :D

Why can't they watch nice, incredibly politically correct and over censored American cartoons?! <_< Bah, if it was up to me they wouldn't even have the internet... thing things I've seen...

seconding everything in this post especially the suggestion you read the Nausicaa manga. Also suggesting you watch Castle of Cagliostro.

on a mostly unrelated note i am really really really enjoying the Break Blade movies (series?!?!) possibly my favorite non gundam mecha focused anime since Frontier came out. Currently getting all of the manga that has been fanscanned so i can't report on that yet but that anime is fuckwin

Fuck the shifty smiley and its eating of posts.

At some point I realized what I was doing at my siblings' age, though I don't know how young your sisters are. Though that may be of no consolation to you :p

Now if you'll excuse me, back to playing Pokemon in Japanese so I can pretend I'm learning something.

Well the youngest is 11, I was playing in a field at that age. Mostly re-enacting the battle of Stalingrad on muddy farmland with chunk of wood as a rifle, I was usually the radio operator. I enjoyed my childhood.

It was fine back when I had the time to watch anime ahead of them but now they finish whole series in the time it takes me to get through a couple of episodes!

I see, mine are older. And not into anime. But I have been accused of showing them porn sites  (completely false accusations I might add).

I don't think anyone here has said anything about it since the trailer came out last month, but the K-on! movie has them visiting, not America, but the UK instead.

I am trying to get into One Piece, wish they were DVD boxsets for region 2 I could get.
