General Anime Thread

I have a love/hate realtionship with anime ... there is quite a lot that I like, but there are also those HUGE PILES OF SHIT that people keep insisting are great (and just arent if you?re not 13 anymore and don?t really buy into all those underdog goes superhero or underdog meets titties-girl things or little boy get gigant mech - stories).
Stuff that I?ve come to love (Movies) includes almost everything by Hayao Miyazaki (Mononoke etc) and Makoto Shinkai (5cm per second etc) or the likes of Pale cocoon (If you?ve never heard about it - LOOK IT UP!). As far as (tv)series go, I really enjoyed Elfen Lied. Once you look past all the gore and titties (not that anything would be generally wrong with Gore and Titties ... in my experience they just usally don?t go together with a good story and only go after pocketmining teenage boys), it?s actually a very good and compelling story with superb animation.
FLCL I totally loved. I?m sure I only get half the Jokes ... but it?s a great rolercoaster anyway. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Camploo I would also recommend to almost anyone. Dokuro-Chan I quite liked too (if I recall correctly someone in this Forum recommended it to me)- but that?s not anything I would tell other people to watch :D.
The original FMA series, the Claymore series and Death Note were halfway decent too IMO.
But then it all goes down for me and I usally start watching some series on recommendation and then curse the same people who recommended it to me half an hour later ... I?m picky.:)

^need i recommend higurashi again?

Snap, forgot about Samurai Champloo. love that one too

But all in all i have to say Bebop is my all time favorite

If you want anime that is good and is aimed at an older crowd (and have bittorrent and don't mind subs) try Golgo 13 and Astro Fighter Sunred. The latter one just got renewed for a second season. Also Lupin III is always a good classic.
Lupin is definetly on my list anyway, I just haven?t gotten around to :) The other two I haven?t even heard of ... I?ll look em up, thx.

I hope my Post didn?t come over wrong ... I like getting recommendations ... I?m completly lost without in this genre of entertainment without them ... I just got some pretty bad ones in the past wich led me to belive my taste does not really let me enjoy everything that is out there :)

Why fuck Naruto? It's a good show! The fight scenes in Naruto is probably the best ones of all the shounen series I've seen. And the story is cool and deep. And the story progresses quite steadily rather than fall into the DBZ/Bleach trap of slowmoving story arcs which feels like they go on for years. That said I like bleach too, and follow that, naruto and one piece as they're all good shounen series.

I like alot of different kinds of anime however, seen most of the things mentioned in this thread. As for a grownup anime I'd say go for GitS:SAC, awsome direction, story, art and music even though it is much more episodic than most.
Last series I finished was Saki although that should go into a second season, one would expect.

Been reading a couple of mangas as well, Berserk, Initial D and Nodame Cantabile as they all continue on quite a long way after the anime adoptations stopped. Oh and obviously I'm following Yotsuba&! how could I not?

Usually long series do turn into shit as it goes on. I've never watched Naruto so I can't say, but InuYasha definitely turned out that way. Usually I watch anime with 2 seasons (52 eps) or less.

Here's another random/funny clip.

Mostly i hate naruto because all the anime geeks from where im from are obsessed with it. and the stupid games, and the trading cards, and all the other mindless crap assosiated with it. all the sheep have to like naruto because its "popular".

Im not faulting the show itself. its well done and i watch it very occasionaly its just i cant stand all the crap that goes along with it.

Bleach, like DBZ (which lasted waaaaaay too fuckin long IMO) does have that super long drawn out story so ill probably wait till its all done and watch it all at once.

Also, i give you Cosby Bebop

Ok, here's my list: Dragon Ball, DBZ(Don't hate, it's part of my childhood), Initial D, Wangan Midnight and finished Death Note a couple of days ago. Loved Death Note, saw an episode on the local Animax and liked it immediately. Anybody into manga?

One of the coolest fan-made openings I've ever seen. Don't particularly care for the song, but the visual effects are very cool.

*EDIT*

And here's the K-ON! OP and ED also in kinetic typography:

The only anime I watched properly was Death Note, have seen a couple of eps of veraious other series but can't remember the titles.

I tend to quite like anime though, it can either be funny (often un-intentionaly!) or dead serious with some good plots floating around in the sea of weird, barely dressed, samurai, sword weilding, ninja girl stuff!

If you like gun and sword fights, check out Black Lagoon, the fights are cools.

Just ignore the horrible dub, can't find a Japanese version on YT.

While i like to read, i think i will pass on this one, FLCL is so much win i don't want to spoil it by understanding it, it was also pretty disturbing, coming from a guy that sat through all of Meakashi-hen without any breaks it means a lot.

Below: sample of Meakashi-hen
