I have a love/hate realtionship with anime ... there is quite a lot that I like, but there are also those HUGE PILES OF SHIT that people keep insisting are great (and just arent if you?re not 13 anymore and don?t really buy into all those underdog goes superhero or underdog meets titties-girl things or little boy get gigant mech - stories).
Stuff that I?ve come to love (Movies) includes almost everything by Hayao Miyazaki (Mononoke etc) and Makoto Shinkai (5cm per second etc) or the likes of Pale cocoon (If you?ve never heard about it - LOOK IT UP!). As far as (tv)series go, I really enjoyed Elfen Lied. Once you look past all the gore and titties (not that anything would be generally wrong with Gore and Titties ... in my experience they just usally don?t go together with a good story and only go after pocketmining teenage boys), it?s actually a very good and compelling story with superb animation.
FLCL I totally loved. I?m sure I only get half the Jokes ... but it?s a great rolercoaster anyway. Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Camploo I would also recommend to almost anyone. Dokuro-Chan I quite liked too (if I recall correctly someone in this Forum recommended it to me)- but that?s not anything I would tell other people to watch .
The original FMA series, the Claymore series and Death Note were halfway decent too IMO.
But then it all goes down for me and I usally start watching some series on recommendation and then curse the same people who recommended it to me half an hour later ... I?m picky.
