A friend just passed this link to me, is this for real?? I mean, at first I presumed this was a joke, but apparently it isn't... :? What next? If you drive over the limit in Gran Turismo/Test Drive/<insert driving game here> the cops get to fine you? Sheesh.

At that rate, NFS is probably outlawed now, considering it openly says to hell with cops, i drive fast!

Germany is so funny. You can't have the even slightest violence in a video game, but ones where you're fucking some chick while her friend stands there naked is perfectly fine.

Well, you aren't really in the position to find that funny since its the same (but the other way round) over there... See Janet Jacksons Boob for a second on TV causes an uproar, but violence isn't seen as a problem...

anyway, this is just ridiculous, and I doubt its going through...

Not really. Germany bans games from being released there. That's not possible here due to free speech. It just has to be marked as mature content.

Huge difference in my book between censorship and regulation.

fining people for playing games! :roflmao: i can't believe i'm reading this. poor germans...

I want to know examples for the second kind of game...:wicked:

Three weeks ago a guy in Emsdetten went to his former school and shot on teachers and pupil. There have been some wounded people. In the end the guy shot himself. That?s why some politicians are talking about banning ego shooters and "violent" games.

The same discussion startet after an incident in 2002 when a guy in Erfurt killed 13 teachers, a cop and 2 kids in his school. Both guys have played games like Counterstrike. Because the politicians don?t have any idea how to handle the situation there talking about banning games - just for a while. in two months nobody is talking about it anymore.

So we are now imprisoning people for Thought-Crime?

Sieg Heil!

thats not the german government but the governments of two states and i don't think the bill will get through to this extent. a fine or jail time might be considered for sellers who sell such games to minors, but certainly not for gamers.

That's the worst excuse I've ever heard. That's like saying "A lot of wealthy people own expensive cars, so owning an expensive car will make you rich!"

Well, most companies would be better of not releasing games in Germany compared to paying millions in punishment to the FCC ;-)
And you didn't actually comment on my statement, but just showed me how the Americans handle the issue of "brutal" games. I was talking about the society and politics, not the law.

All that is BS anyway, since I highly doubt they gonna ban "Killergames" as they are always quick to complain... Its a couple on individuals on a witch hunt, thats all...

When I was in Primary School, the Nuns taught me that even thinking of comminiting a sin (i.e. thinking of swearing, thinking about stealing a pack of gum, thinking about banging some other mans wife) is a sin; and Jesus counts it against you.

/Just one of the reasons why I'm not Catholic now.

i think theyre banning it cuz ppl who play games like CS and other shooters have a bit of an anger problem.

1 and not the only example is the German kid who completely destroys his keyboard. i remember another vid (i remember it being German cuz i can understand some German in the video) where the guy just goes off on his computer and takes the monitor and throws it to the ground.

We already have a law that outlaws all kind of media showing sick stuff (like child pornography and extreme gore), it also extends onto computer games. That effort to ban egoshooters is about the tenth time they tried this, because politicians are just too old and can't be bothered to even have a look at these games. They're gonna fail and nobody will care about it, until the next freak goes to kill his teachers.
Banning violent computer games completely is not really possible, because it conflicts with our constitution (freedom of speech, etc) which is the highest law here.

Wrong. Those games are only for sale for >18 year olds....only those REALLY violent games are banned......I bought HL, HL?, Quake 3 & co. in a shop, completely without problems...I was ~13 when I bought Quake3 ;). And in Germany you see sex like a normal thing, not as a dead sin you are not allowed to talk about like in america....there is a big clash of our cultures...when friends of my parents from america came here, they let their 6 year old child watch stuff like silence of the lambs, but as soon as there was a naked person (or only like f.e. a naked ass they covered his eyes....here it would be the other way round....as sex is a natural thing, tearing apart the skin while a person lives is not.

This law will never pass, it?s just an attempt of some old politicians who crave for attention to be in the spotlight for some days.....the population is against such a law, nearly everybody said that games don?t make you a killer, failed education does. and how many people in the world play games? and how many freak out? I BET you could raise some statistics that more people freak out after having drunk coke f.e. ....... so lets ban coke?
