Getting a Drivers License in your country

Anyway there are apparently changes afoot in the UK. One of which is a restriction on the passengers you can carry for the first year after passing your test, between the hours of 10pm and something like 6am. The drink drive limit is going to zero for new drivers and no warnings will be given for mobile phone use.

So the youths going clubbing will need more designated drivers than before, or what?

Seems that was what they had in mind yes. But what if you and your friends need to take an early flight (to go clubbing elsewhere, duh) where you have to check in ridiculously early? Or do you not take the car to the airport?

Now I remembered that Ibiza Uncovered voice-over girl from 1999. She who always sounded so hoarse... Lisa I'Anson.

They'be been talking about implementing this for years. Aside from being utterly pointless and not really achieving anything it'd be hard to implement.

Much like the new lowered drink driving limit in Scotland it'll achieve sod all and is merely a distraction to say "look, we're working towards safer roads" without actually having to do anything serious.

Wow the Scots get to drive home at 0.79?! That's alot!

I think that is an idea from Canada or some US States.

Zero limit for drink-drive, sounds like a good idea but may not be possible to assess. A lower limit of say 50% of the currrent limit may work, perhaps?

You get warnings for mobile phone use in Leicestershire? :?

Zero is easiest to assess, no? The driver doesn't need to judge how much he can drink while still legal, and any breathalyser reading >0 gets you nicked.

That's how it works here. Any trace of alcohol and you're done. This is the case for at least the first 3 years of having your licence. Also for the first year we have the passenger curfew also. It's easy to enforce because new drivers have to display red P plates for the first year and green for the two after that, provided they pass the tests to move on to the next stages.

Ukania, Drives' test type two, a favourite with the South Asian community I understand - pay someone else to take the test for you by impersonating you - pass rate close to 100%. Result.

What if you are not driving your own car thus not having red P plates.

They are plastic version of this:

transferable between cars, failure to display is 1 demerit point for each not displayed (front and rear)

Here a Red P plater gets 4 points, Green P plater gets 7 and a fully licensed driver gets 12.

Interestingly enough any Speeding offense on red P plate, and i Mean any , even 3kph is 4 points resulting in a loss of license for 3 months.

Maybe P plates will be enforced here. You can already buy green ones, but they are optional. I'm not really sure why some people choose to display them, if you're the sort of person who feels the need to keep telling people that you have only just passed then how did you manage to pass in the first place?

Well, it seem that it works in Oz currently, so yeah zero would be a good clear limit.
I thought there was some problem with "false positives", but maybe the new analysis devices have got over that.

Never sure whether that was an urban myth or true, but with picture driving licences that must be more difficult.

I always wondered that too.

Over here at least, a positive breathalyser finding often is followed by a blood test that's very accurate and court-able.

BRAZIL

The Brazilian driving test involves four steps:

1-Medical Test: This involves a general medical exam and will also include an eyesight and reactions test

2-Psychological behaviour/logic exam: This test is to assess the person's mental suitability to drive. When completed, you will receive a certificate, which allows you to proceed to the next stage.

3-Road theory and law instruction and test: A minimum of 45 hours of instruction regarding the highway code, driving law and theory. Then you have to answer 30 questions about the laws and other stuff (70% to pass). When the exam is successfully completed, you will receive a certificate which allows you to proceed to the next stage.

4-Practical training and test: A minimum of 20 hours of guided instruction in a vehicle is mandatory. A certificate is issued to confirm completion of this training, after which a practical test at DETRAN must successfully be completed. If you pass you will receive your provisional drivers license in a few days/weeks.

5- To get the definitive drivers license you have to drive an year with the provisonal license without geting any serious fines.

45 HOURS?

45 HOURS?

Yes, 45 long and tedious hours. I am currently trying to get my drivers license and i took 2 months and a half to complete those 45 hours, this week i started the practical training so I will be without a license for at least one more month....

I have a car but i still can't drive it legally <_<

It's a minimum of 20 practical hours here. They actually teach us how to use a roundabout here, so if you see a person fumbling their way through, they've had a licence for longer than 15 years, so from a time before they were introduced to our roads. Which is another reason why you should have to retake your licence every 10 years or so. Laws and rules change, you have to prove that you're up to speed on them.
