Umm, that's maps.google.com probably. Google Earth was released like a day or so ago...

http://blogs.pcworld.com/techlog/archives/000748.html

On Tuesday morning, Google plans to officially announce Google Earth, a Windows satellite photo/mapping/driving directions/local information program. Some of us here at PC World have been playing with the software for the past few days, and it's a wonder we've gotten any work done. Google Earth is that spellbinding; it ranks among the best free downloads in the history of free downloads.

Woah. I can zoom in on my house enough to see my satellite equipment installed.

I think my sense of privacy just took a little blow.

(Maybe I was a little naive to think I had any privacy before now.)

No it was Google Earth, I guess the digg.com link was non-public, soz =.="

At least you can be happy about the fact that they seem to use outdated data. The construction site next to my house is long gone. It's approximately two years old.

this must kick some ass... gna try it now  ... I was so pissed off when they didn't have satellite imaging for areas outside the US before

EDIT: btw, how big is the file?

Yeah, right
You wanna stop people from walking by your house aswell?

they do... I just found my house in Malaysia, Hong Kong and where I am staying right now.... and I can also confirm along with swek that these images are about 2years old

I'm not worried about anyone that would walk by my house. It's the idea that attorneys, politicians, sue-happy freaks, military and general weirdos could spend hours on these mapping programs making up reasons to walk by here that tend to bother me. You've got to admit there are a lot of really weird people in the world.

I get some comfort that there's nothing special about my place, and there are a lot better targets out there for the dangerous weirdos.

Here's one for you to click...

Circuit de Catalunya, Spanish GP track in Montmelo.

The Spanish shots are from about 6 months ago as far as I can tell & they are much higher resolution than the shitty UK maps, you can't make out any detail on them at all. The Japanese ones are even worse.

Been playing aorund with it for over an hour, very cool stuff. I've been checking out all the areas I knew when I was a kid before I moved north to Michigan. It's fun :)

Man, I played with this for 3 hours lol - anyone know if there is a way to just download everything - I fucking hate streaming! lol

^think how HUGE that file would be.. i mean... it's a map of the WORLD.... complete with pictures

I wouldn't mind downloading it, though. You can be somewhere with no internet connection, and you could have it in your laptop. But I guess they're adding up stuff everyday, so our download would be even more outdated.
