Guess That Car game - By Clues Only

Bringing the clues to the next page (I always manage to succeed at being the last poster on a page). Also, a small change in the first clue:

1. It was the first mass-produced car to feature something now fairly common, and widely used (under the same name) across the range of it's manufacturer.
2. It once lost a race on Top Gear.

Chrysler New Yorker?

This one should be fairly easy:
1. When this car first appeared its styling was pretty controversial. In fact, it still is.
2. It was mechanically based on a car from the same manufacturer.
3. The car it was based on was the last of a dinasty for the manufacturer.

Lamborghini Reventon is one popping into mind... while not really "controversial", it's styling is interesting, and technically it is a Murcielago, which is soon due to be replaced by a new hypercar.

The Edsel?

One more clue:
1. When this car first appeared its styling was pretty controversial. In fact, it still is.
2. It was mechanically based on a car from the same manufacturer.
3. The car it was based on was the last of a dinasty for the manufacturer.
4. It is European.

Correct. An amazing car, in my opinion!

Okay, here goes:

29 cars of this type have been built over the years, and of the 29, four have been written off (with the driver being killed on one occasion).

This car's engine configuration remains largely in use by the same manufacturer (with various alterations).
