It was produced between those dates, yes, but that's not when it first came out.

Anything special? Well, it [like a fair few Japanese cars] was a K-car [or keicar], which means it met specific criteria as regards size and engine displacement, and means that some tax and insurance excemptions, and helps get around certain aspects of Japanese law.

It was also exported outside of Japan, but only to one other country.

Heh, you've got it!

It's a Suzuki MightyBoy, a ute/pickup first built in 1983, and exported to Australia between 1985 and 1988.

edit - the registration number is entirely coincidental, I'm sure.

Jag XJS? It has buttresses, but no louvres in the rear lid that would imply a mid engine.
