Hell no, it's the flu people, nothing more to see here. Both me and my girlfriend allegedly contracted it earlier this year, and its no worse than normal.

No. I'm not in the risk group and I always pwn viruses in the face.

No.

And by definition Swine Flu (H1N1) is one of the least effective and contagious (that's what the 1s mean) there is. Seasonal Flu is H3N2, and obviously kills many more people than this swine nonsense. Man up, and stop listening to the press.

All of that. But especially Viper's post. ;) And Speedtouch's. Not to mention I've not any vaccinations since the age of two, and I rarely get sick anyway.

Quick OT...

About 5 years ago the strain of flu that went around was different than the expected strands covered in the flu vaccine. I had the vaccine that year (I was teaching and thus highly exposed) and came down with the flu anyway. I got pneumonia that year as well, which let me tell you is just buckets of freaking fun! It's a bit like breathing with your trachea filled with milkshake.

I had pneumonia when I was 14. It sucks. Hard.

hmmm, now I'm hearing that people with small children (< 1yo) should get it too.
My wife already had a shot (still walking forwards BTW), dunno if I should too

I don't really care if I get sick, but my little one....

Well, it's been decided. This Thursday I will be getting the shot.

Fort Detrick....facility with recirculated air...

Are you listening to my phone calls? :D

Sorry for the threadjack :)

heh heh... well, I LIVE on Fort Detrick, but I don't WORK on Fort Detrick.... although it is not far away. ;-)

Still alive, still walking forwards but it does hurt a LOT more than I remember from other flu shots...

I'm not getting it because I never take up my flu injections.

Because it's injections and they have never offered the nasal spray.

And it may be foolish but I would rather die than get injections.

As for their content: it's just like any other flu vaccine which (when I was still living at 'ome) I was forced to take and I was fine. It's had the same testing time as normal flu vaccines and work in the same way. So...fearing that? Nah, I'll not bother.

Bit silly all in all.

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

Also, men who are scared of needles can not call themselves men.

My regular flu shot didnt hurt in any shape or form. With the swine flu one my upper arm was a bit swollen and numb for 3 days.

We got the shot for our daughter (not quite 7 months old) last night. She did great, only cried for a sec. Since we are no longer in the high risk group, I am not going to beat myself to death trying to find someplace to get it. There are others who need it more than me.

I am going to get the seasonal shot at my next opportunity, though.

I got my shot this week, no issues at all. To the guy above who would "rather die" then get a shot... you sir are not a very wise individual. There are some VERY nasty diseases out there that have been eliminated because of injectable vaccines, and lots of others that have been knocked down to nearly non-existent levels. Paranoia and ignorance are not reasonable or rational excuses for endangering everyone around you.

little story:
friend of the family, doctor himself, recently gave himself the shot. nothing exciting about that, but his explanation, why he did it:
"the vaccine comes in boxes of 10 shots and you're supposed to administer them all the day (or 24h after) you open the box! we had those two shots left and no patients coming in that day, nothing left to do but use it ourselves!"

And there is already a strain (contained for all you worrying people) of Swine Flue that is supposedly immune to Tamiflu. 5 people in the University Of Cardiff Hospital have it. Good going there.

I got no pain, redness or swelling or anything at all from getting my shot on Monday. All I can see is just a tiny little red dot where the needle went in, just like every other vaccination I've had (that one unpleasant tetanus booster I received at school not counting). All good. :)

My mum is a GP and this is really how it works, if any is left over it has to be put in the bin after 24 hrs (a theory between doctors is that it is probably just a ploy by the manufacturers to keep the government buying, but if they are caught administering "out of date" drugs it can land you in trouble, regardless of theories )

Myself and my dad were offered the jab, I declined because I have probably had it already.

Ya, this is how I got mine. Box had one left so mum brought it home for me. Feels good to be vaccinated against both seasonal and swine flu. Enjoy being ill, stubborn people!

Strange, my arm was mega sore the day after. It's been 4 days and only now it's getting less painful

must mean I have good resistance

have to get it, i didn't really think about it when the first person died in my country because of swine flu, but now i care a little bit more, because i feel not that great either. somewhat more badly every day.

The fact is not many people have died from this. It looks like a scam to sell vaccines through fear.

Besides I think some of these pharm companies are inept.

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.

And an official of the World Health Organization?s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International?s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.

?At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,? medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.

?But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.?

The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.

The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn?t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses.

Public health authorities concerned about what has been described as a ?serious error? on Baxter?s part have assumed the death of the ferrets meant the H5N1 virus in the product was live. But the company, Baxter International Inc., has been parsimonious about the amount of information it has released about the event.

On Friday, the company?s director of global bioscience communications confirmed what scientists have suspected.

?It was live,? Christopher Bona said in an email.

The contaminated product, which Baxter calls ?experimental virus material,? was made at the Orth-Donau research facility. Baxter makes its flu vaccine ? including a human H5N1 vaccine for which a licence is expected shortly ? at a facility in the Czech Republic.

People familiar with biosecurity rules are dismayed by evidence that human H3N2 and avian H5N1 viruses somehow co-mingled in the Orth-Donau facility. That is a dangerous practice that should not be allowed to happen, a number of experts insisted.

Accidental release of a mixture of live H5N1 and H3N2 viruses could have resulted in dire consequences.

While H5N1 doesn?t easily infect people, H3N2 viruses do. If someone exposed to a mixture of the two had been simultaneously infected with both strains, he or she could have served as an incubator for a hybrid virus able to transmit easily to and among people.

That mixing process, called reassortment, is one of two ways pandemic viruses are created.

There is no suggestion that happened because of this accident, however.

?We have no evidence of any reassortment, that any reassortment may have occurred,? said Andraghetti.

?And we have no evidence of any increased transmissibility of the viruses that were involved in the experiment with the ferrets in the Czech Republic.?

Baxter hasn?t shed much light ? at least not publicly ? on how the accident happened. Earlier this week Bona called the mistake the result of a combination of ?just the process itself, (and) technical and human error in this procedure.?

He said he couldn?t reveal more information because it would give away proprietary information about Baxter?s production process.

Andraghetti said Friday the four investigating governments are co-operating closely with the WHO and the European Centre for Disease Control in Stockholm, Sweden.

?We are in very close contact with Austrian authorities to understand what the circumstances of the incident in their laboratory were,? she said.

?And the reason for us wishing to know what has happened is to prevent similar events in the future and to share lessons that can be learned from this event with others to prevent similar events. ... This is very important.?

There's another couple thousand people over across the street from my house again today. It's like an outdoor curcus for these needles.

I'm not bothering for obvious reasons but I'm wondering about something...

If this is all a load of crap to "sell" vaccines and scam everybody (or whatever)

who is making all the money? as far as I know it's free for the shot.

The pharm companies aren't selling it for free. We, the tax payer, are paying for it.

People are just retarded. The people who are freaking out about the swine flu and getting shot over it are the same people who never get standard flu shots and won't start to get them after this. Retarded, I tells ya.
