i recently got this from my friend and i installed everything untill it asks me for a cd key , even if i wanna play it off line (which is all i was planning to do) it wont let me pass

is there any way of just installing half life 2?
(it made me install half life 2, steam, 2 demos and counterstrike )
all i want is half life 2 story mode singleplayer thingy AAAAAHHH
 
No, you need a valid CD key and Internet connection to install it. It verifies your key when you install it and links it to your account.

Only way to do it is to use his Steam account as his key has already been used up.

And anyone who starts talking about warezing / cracking this wonderful game gets banned. :bangin:
 
anti-piracy and everything, ok, but systems like this are bullshit

i have 2 borther and a sister, with each our own pc

like we're gone buy the game fucking 4 times :x
 
Then you just need to set up a family Steam account so that you guys can all use the same account.
 
You can play the game on as many computers as you want, in fact if you friend came over and logged into steam from your computer it would automagically download HL2 and all games he has under his steam account to your computer, no need for a CD at all.

Exactly what I was about to say. Just simply log onto his account and it will download the game for you.
 
I just share my steam account with my family, can't expect them all to buy a copy, though after months of playing my bro is now so addicted that he's gonna buy his own steam account anyway. The system works! :D
 
Yeah, that's what I did - gave my sister my Steam account details. She barely plays it, so it's not worth the $50 (may be cheaper now) to buy another copy.
 
ok so how do i install it when it keeps asking em for a cd key, where do i login with his account (thats completely gay though, i mean for a singleplayer game.....:cry: )
 
You don't need to install it if you use his account. Download Steam, install Steam. Login with his account, download HL2 through Steam. I don't have a CD version of HL2 for example. I bought it via Steam and downloaded it. ;)

And no it's not gay, it stops people like you from warezing it. :p
 
I was kinda pissed off that you needed an internet connection to play single player, but once everything is downloaded you can choose steam to store your login info and play offline. HL2 is very big on multiplayer as well, so that's why the focus on the network.

This is by far the most effective anti-warez system I have seen so far. I honestly don't buy many PC games.
 
I love Steam just for the fact that it allowed me to turn my badly dubbed German Half-Life 2 into the original by giving me the option to download the English language files. :thumbsup:

people like me, thanks :? as if you have never downloaded a game and played it using a cd key from the net (not that i have AHEM) :eek:
 
I have, but if I like the game, I buy it. ;)
