Besides the 300C vs S-Type R vs Holden, has the show done any luxury sedan comparisons that auto magazines usually do?

For example:
small luxury sedans - 3series/C class/A4/X type/IS300/G35/etc.
medium luxury sedans - 5series/E class/A6/S type/GS430/M45/etc.
large luxury sedans - 7series/S class/A8/XJ/LS430/Q45/etc

I've only seen most of series 4 and 5 and so far it seems when it comes to comparisions, they only do the ends of the spectrum - hatches and supercars. How about some stuff in the middle?

i believe the do individual reviews of alot of those cars, just not head to head comparisons... at the end of a road test of one they usually talk about its pros/cons compared with others in its class... check out the episode list for the older episodes and their content...

Yes they have...it was mostly the S600 though..it was supposed to be Audi A8, Merc S600 and Jag XJR (not sure about jag)

first of..
IS300 is out.. but then again.. the is a new IS220d/IS250/IS350
and infiniti is not sold in europe so i dont think TG is going to test them (untill infiniti comes to europe next year)
a 5/E/GS/A6/Stype test is a must now that all the cars in thet segment is new or "newer"
hope they remember that when they test the GS..(have they teste the new A6?)

They once did a lame test with Renault Laguna, Ford Mondeo, Jaguar X-Type, Toyota Avensis, Honda Accord, BMW 320i, IIRC. It was based on the F1 teams.

they have also done one on S-class, Jag XJ, Audi A8 and the maybach... this is the episode where JC gets pissed with Merc's voice-recognistion system....

Which episode is that? I don't see it in the episode guide...

There was an episode in which Jeremy drove Audi RS6. Didn't they show BMW M5 and Merc E55 AMG, too? As far as I'm concerned it wasn't a real comparison, though...

I'd say leave the comparisons out. You're not going to base your car purchase considerations on a Top Gear review anyway. Fifth Gear is the show to watch for that kind of stuff.

Yep!

But somehow the comparisons are always the best segments (ok, right after the challenges) because there they often do stuff together...

Sure, but not like this: "Today were going to compare the recent luxury sedans to eachother based on resale value, price, saftey features, braking distance and fuel consumption". ;)

You know, I didn't mean it like that... ;-)

Don't remember. I'll try to look for it, but they only did a lap, it wasn't very good.

|||EDIT|||
It was the 2002.11.10.

Why? Fifth Gear is more practical?

Yes, more objective. Top Gear guys are led by their prejudices and are always making fun of everything...
