**I put this thread in the 'Top Gear - General' forum, but figure I should put it here, too. If that's not ok, just delete this one.**
For a while, I too was an avid bittorrent user, Azureus being a favorite client of mine. However, something happened on my computer that has stopped any and all bittorrent programs from working. Even my computer genius friend who introduced me to Azureus couldn't figure it out (and I don't feel like reformatting or something to try and get it working again, because I don't miss it now anyway).
So, I started going back to Kazaa, which became more and more frustrating/pointless as time went on. I got a few Top Gear episodes through it, but it took forever and the selection was small.
Then I remembered about a program I had on the computer that I pretty much ignored for a long time. When I first installed it around a year ago, it was as pointless as Kazaa is now for certain things. Not being happy with Kazaa at all, I decided to give it a try again, and boy had things changed! What is that program?
eMule! <-- click on it
It is absolutely amazing now! At any given time, I can enter a server with anywhere from 400,000 to almost 1.5 million people on it, sharing over a billion files total (for search method, I use Global server, which seems to show the maximum results).
Here are some of the things one can find at almost anytime with eMule:
- every episode of Top Gear (including specials, old and new)
- every episode of Fifth Gear
- just about any Clarkson video and a few from Tiff
- all of "Motorworld," all of "Inventions that Changed the World," all of "Meets the Neighbours," and a few from other series
- stuff that isn't even on this forum's list, like "Who Do You Think You Are?," a interesting show Jeremy appeared on where he discovered his roots by means of his family tree, and also guest appearances on other TV shows, such as Stephen Fry's show "QI."
I have so many things from eMule that many members say they don't that I figured I'd let people know how I find things. Basically, if you look at the Clarkson and Tiff TV/video lists here, just about any that say they're available in electronic format can be found this way. One exception is that you can't find the 700mb Top Gear episodes with it, but the 350mb ones are plentiful, including all the 2002 episodes. I've replaced many of my "JW" rips with the 350mb ones, in fact.
I know it isn't a bittorrent program, which could turn some people off, but its popularity has been soaring lately and I just thought I'd share the wealth, so to speak. If you try it and want any tips to make finding things easier, don't hesitate to ask.
