i'm wondering if anything will conflict if i reformat and put my OS on my 2ndary hard drive instead of my primary.

Windows needs to be on your primary drive, C:, to the best of my knowledge.

However, you can just switch the cables so that your secondary drive is now your primary drive.

It shouldn't be a prob, I run win2k on my secondary harddrive and win98 on my primary one. Works just as wel as it should.

^that works if you install the second version after you install the first version ( :| )
i meain, you can't install one, and then plug in another hd in with alread a version installed without doing changes in the BIOS

you can do that perfectly well, just change the bootsequence in your bios.

Oh yeah, that'll work as well. D'oh.

btw. when i got my second HD i had to put this peice of plastic over like 6 pins (coving 2 with the platic) does that effect n e thing. the instuctions said to do it. it was different if it was the 1st hD, 2 HD or 3rd HD

Ewww, IDE. :p Use cable select if you can.

Cable select used to be a problem with 40-connector cables, 80-connector cables have fixed the problems with it (suppossedly).

wow, what the hell are u guys talking about?

my dads pc has a removable hd, so the internally must be able to boot (so primary), but when the removable one is plugged in, the internal one should be secondary--> cable select

but your posts i seem to be wrong :?
xplain please, although it does work like i connected them

You can set it how a computer boots, first boot device, second ect. If the computer can't boot from the first thing in the list it moves onto the next item.

I'm guessing thy're on two seperate ide channels, both set as primary. If it can't find the hdd on the first channel it goes to the second one. Where the internal one is.

Could be something like what i just said, but ofcourse there are a few different ways to set it up.

no, i boot from my secondary slave harddisk. works like a charm...
primary master is empty, primary slave is DVD-burner, and secondary master is my data-storage HD

Yay for having all of your drives being SATA and not having to deal with that shit. Each of my burners just gets their own IDE cable and all is set.
