To be honest, theres a tool in photoshop which gives off a very realistic, HDR-esque effect.

Image > Adjustment > Shadow/Highlight

Too true.

Its underrated.

The funny thing about some of the "HDR" examples is that they can actually lose detail thanks to the contrast people crank up. Its an interesting effect but though.

All of them processed out of 3 JPEGs with -2,0,+2 expousures. All taken using tripod.
