im part of the ones that dont get why people get upset with movies fucking up expensive cars. sure, they are amazing pieces of machinery, but they are production cars, there are more of them around. as for me, I couldnt care less. the cars arent mine, so why would it matter?

alot more amazing cars are being used by fucking faggots that wear hats and drive with their hand at 12oclock. why dont you people bitch at that too?

fbc, artwork isnt mass produced, its not something they have plans for and can make another one anytime they want.
I agree, it's not as if they are one of a kind models. There are hundreds of them, and they have been purchased by the production company. They are not in the public domain, and do not belong to everyone. What they do with them is entirely up to the crew. Not something everyone should be getting their knickers in a twist about.

Mind you, as Viper said, it would probably be cheaper if they just crashed replicas.

they crashed a real one?

dont most movie's use replica's? i would of thought they would use a replica car, i mean the CGT is a rare machine, limited run only. plus its ?300,000+ in value and probably never going to depreciate....why on earth would you then trash a real one.

what a fucking waste, theres so many people who would of killed for that car.

Only 2 CGTs? ONLY 2 ?!?! Are you completely retarded ?!? How the hell can you even consider saying ONLY 2, when one is horrible enough...

I admire the engineering feats of the Carrera GT already hugely enough, but that hurts even more, because it happens to be my favourite supercar of all time.

I mean come on, that's like, what, over $1.000.000 worth of Porsche ? Surely you could have done it with less money by building a good replica and most importantly NOT WRECK SOMETHING THAT AWESOME AND BEAUTIFUL
if i was a porsche engineer, and i saw a creation i was apart of coming back the factory in a bin bag id be monstorously pissed unless it was a legit un-avoidable accident. its not like diahtsu or what ever who just press out an econo box every 23 seconds lol!

in other words, purposeful destruction and crashes that were the result of big ego + sheer lack of skill and common sense, i would be inclinded to stab them in the face.

i guess the upshot of all these wrecked, limited run exotics is that the people who actually look after their cars have it go up in value as they become more rare.

Yeah I know - but my point was that I don't like a lot of art - a lot of it's egotistical crap, but I wouldnt go around smashing it up for a few seconds of film - whether there was another 400 units around or not. I respect what it is, and that's why it bugs me when people destroy cars like the CGT used in this film - it's a special car, an achievement, something to be respected, and these ignorant doucebags think it's okay to destroy it.

That was for some charity event, from what I've heard.

A few points:

Halicki, as far as I understood it, never really destroyed anything iconic. I could be wrong as I haven't seen Junkman, Dead Line Auto, or the incompleted Gone in 60 Seconds 2.

As for Dukes of Hazard, most of those Chargers were probably baseline models that most collectors wouldn't care about, though I know the General Lee was suppose to be a '69 R/T. They were quite prolific, iirc, and I'd be more upset if they were wrecking Charger 500s.

This movie, I probably wouldn't care as much if it weren't for the fact that their whole selling point is the fact that they're destroying these cars. They're not saying "come see our awesome cool movie, it's awesome!" No, they're saying "Come see our awesome cool movie, we're taking your dream cars that you love and adore and destroying them and giving about as much thought about them as you would your neighbor's Corolla."

I would rather have one more C-GT in the world and one less shitty movie about street racing.

As for the DBS in Casino Royale, I think Aston supplied the cars, which were development prototypes. The cars they fucked up in this movie (save the kit cars) are pieces of automotive history, and enough have been trashed thanks to people with too much money, and not enough brains, without someone crashing them on purpose.

To me the car is beautiful machinery with a lot of thought and effort of people who cared about making it. Then it is destroyed and all their work is lost for an effect. To me that ruins it.

Agreed. They could at least make the crashes look somewhat realistic. From what it shows in that video, they look horrible. Normally I'm totally against using CGI to create an entire effect because I think it should only be used to enhance a real one. But in this case I'd be all for doing total CGI crashes. They would certainly look more believable than the crap these guys have come up with.

Well, most of the cars he wrecks were merely an afterthought back then. Unlike today, alot of Muscle Cars in GI60 were being unloaded for dirt cheap due to insurance costs. So wrecking a few wouldn't have raised a few eyebrows.

As for GI60 2, alot of the stuff he wrecks were econo-cars. I mean sure, you can see some classic Civics and whatnot, but alot of the cars you could get from the local scrapyard for cheap.

o chill out takumi, he probably ment a normal corolla,

i don't even know why toyota chose to call the ae86 a corolla,

speaking of that, ive noticed alot of asshole ae86 owners, ive seen video of one guy purposely screwing up a parts car, i wouldn't have cared but it was rust-free, which is getting near impossible to find now, as well i saw another site where a bunch of ae86 smashed up a crx for fun, and then some retard in san-fran smashed up two perfect aw11s just to make the mki owners angry

maybe as one of the lesser angry GT-S owners you can explain why most GT-S owners have such huge pysch problems :) ?!? they have nice cars, whats with the rage?

Almost everyone here needs to calm the fuck down. Yes, this movie looks like another cheesefest on wheels, and yes, IT IS a shame that they destroyed all those wonderful pieces of machinery, but what it boils down to is this: the cars destroyed were private property. Although all of us in this forum could think of nothing worse to do with a car like the Porsche, if these people want to blow the hell out of their cars, so be it. Yes I know it's horrible, but their not our cars, we didn't pay for them so tough shit. I know if I decided to destroy some of my stuff that was considered the most wonderful/rare piece of [insert example] ever made by a given group of emotionally invested individuals, If I didn't share their feelings, i'd probably tell them to fuck off. It sucks but that's the way it is.

last thought: I agree they should have used replicas.

Yeah! Maybe they are private property, but seeing people wasting beatufull pieces of machinery like this, I'm sorry but I can't stand it.

I mean somebody who loves cars wouldn't let this happen, I'm sure that if i were able to afford any of these beautiful pieces of machinery I would treat them like anything else that money can buy. What they have done in this movie (which has been said before in this thread) is just publictiy for a movie which only would appeal to a bunch of blokes who would be only interested in seeing fast things crashing and a bunch of plastic girls showing off.

I hate seeing this kind of things and think that those people (the producer who let this happen with the enzos and the poor Carerra GT's) doesn't care at all about the money and they waste thousands of dollars (or whatever it is) in a blink of an eye, just to make a simple and dull movie which will only be remembered as " that movie where the ferrari crashed".

I've read on wikipedia that the cars destroyed in the movie are actually from the private collection of one of the story writers. Can't decide if that makes it any better or worse.

I don't know about Porsche, but Ferrari does screen its Enzo buyers. I believe that you have to have owned two Ferraris before you made the short list to get an Enzo. Perhaps someone can expand on/verify this...?
this is from the "Eddie Griffin crashed an Enzo" thread at another forum I hit, I have no way of verifying this

If you werent hand selected by Ferrari to be able to purchase an Enzo, then you had to apply to buy one. You needed to own 5 other Ferraris (including one F40 and one F50), and been a customer for more than 20 years just be considered.

It's a car, it's bits of metal and composite. And still in production if I'm not mistaken. More can and will be made. I love that car as well, I think it sounds awesome, but seriously, it's a car, and not a limited production one at that.

The only thing I dislike about this movie (judging from what I saw) is they wasted wrecking such awesome cars with horrible looking wrecks. I guess they needed a way to beat "the transporter 2" with it's flipping and just at the right time getting it upside down to use the crane to pull the bomb off.
