I've got an HP i'm bored with and looking to convert into a macintosh computer, just for the fun of it. My friends and i made a vauge attempt at it but were too worried of not being able to find the right drivers, or breaking something in the process.

The PC in question is a HP pavillion DV6000, as seen HERE:

Could one of the Mac wizzes guide a newbie through the process (some kind of link or write-up would be fantastic) of what i would need to do to get this to run well, run properly, and have as much functionality as i can muster? Im a total newbie to this. It needs a format and i'd like to try mac. (Also cool apple sticker on the back will fool everyone!)

I'll be watching this thread with interest, someone at work has a broken one of those that they're going to give me. If I can get it working again it could be an nice project. Good luck. :)

I tried to do this a while ago, it's fairly simple if you have the right hardware (I didn't). Not sure how much it has changed/improved, but it used to be just a case of finding a modified install disk and booting from it.

It depends on the hardware. I ran a hackintosh for a year or so before buying a Mini. It was pretty straight forward. I'd suggest visiting the insanelymac forums.

AMD Processors tend to be a little harder to get working than Intels, but it should still be quite possible, and at least you have an NVidia graphics chipset that should be supported. The first thing you'll need to do is go out and buy a copy of Snow Leopard, then, you just make the appropriate boot disk (for your CPU/GPU/chipset/keyboard/mouse combo) and run the OSX installer. You'll have to install Chameleon or GRUB2 to boot OSX.

on this point, it's worth noting that the recovery disks that come with a mac will not work - you have to have a boxxed copy
