Hi guys, I have registered a site with cubaseeder's company :D .

Since this is my first proper site ever, I am kind of confused on how to work with stuff. Here is the list of what I want to know :

- What is the best program/s to use.
- How do I publish it.
- Is MS Front Page good?

I have managed to put up a page on My Site using the ftp linky.

This is what I have put on My Site just to start.

Your help shall be greatly appreciated.

Firstly, do you know how to use Frontpage properly?

Frontpage is good enough for most people.

Depends on what you want...

Blog style? -> wordpress.org
Picture Gallery? -> www.4homepages.de or coppermine

Something else: Dunno...

Please don't use FrontPage, the amount of useless code it throws in is insane. It's easy enough, if you just want a blog to just go with Wordpress, as mentioned above.

My problem is not actually making the pages, my problem is posting them up on to my site. When I try "Publish to Web" in MS Front Page, I get an error.

Because that is stupid... The whole Frontpage thing is stupid, IMO... Not only this one function.

Simply use a FTP client, shouldn't have any problems with that then...

html-kit is the way to go if you want to type it yourself

Use Notepad. You can't go wrong. It's free, it's efficient, it's basic, it doesn't take up much, and it won't clutter up your site with extraneous crap.

If you have basic knowledge of HTML, you can enjoy having more control over your document, especially if you're a beginner and want to learn HTML by hand and not be faced with miles and miles of META tags like Frontpage throws in needlessly. Efficient coding pays off; do it yourself. Dreamweaver and others are better than Frontpage, but I'd rather code with my toes than open up that monstrosity.

If you need more help on HTML and Cascading Style Sheets, which is a staple of today's Internet and will make your page look stunning without bloated code, try W3Schools with its free tutorials on HTML and programming.

I code all my sites by hand, using a notepad clone (it does syntax highlighting).

Tried Dreamweaver but its too tricky. so i m gonna spend a day or two learning HTML coding :(

I have used Dreamweaver in the past, its not that hard!

That's the spirit!

For Notepad clones, I use Ultraedit, which is decent and supports tabbed windows and different colors depending on text to make your HTML coding experience less confusing. Textpad, what I use at school, is just as good.

If you visit my site (I have put the sketches up), you will see that there are serious alignment issues going on. Can someone help me out with that.

And can also pl tell me how I can make the sketch pics open in a new window by clicking the thumbnails. I am using Dreamweaver MX 2004.

And also pl tell me some good Tut sites for dreamweaver :D

I'm watching this thread with interest - I've always wanted to setup my own site with a photo gallery, but I've never know what software I need and how exactly you go about it.

I know I need to put some HTML up, and I've seen the photo gallery software, but I've just got no idea how I link it all together

Try one of the php/mysql kits. If your Webspace has those features.
You don't need to do anything, you just enter the Database Info from your Hoster on the first time you open it, and then it just works...

Frontpage
Dreamweaver
Coppermine (photogallery)

Yet currently I prefer Flash: it's just so easy (the only code you need to know is stop; ), and you have the freedom to create whatever you want.

i hate sites completely in flash, you can't do anything with them, can't even save a picture
