Hey, Morris Marina Fans!

Somewhat on the BL topic, I remember my dad bringing home a new Austin Maestro when I was but a small lad.

I also remember throwing up all over its lovely cloth upholstery 30 minutes later during our first trip in the shiny new car.

I may have developed a distaste for British Leyland at a young age but it took another couple of awful cars to get my father to see the light

My Dad had one. It was horrible. I did burn it with the cig lighter (I didnt know what it was, lucky I didnt burn myself).

One thing to make clear here the Marina was not trying to be different, it was built to take on the cortina, so it was built as a conventnial car for the time, i.e. not to be all that different from anything else, it had to be as at that time fleet buyers would not look at anything that was too radical, i.e. the Austin/Morris 1800.

It did its job held 3rd position in the sales charts for a long time, this was through the fact it was entirely a conventinal car.

Same thing happened with the MK5 Escort except ford blew a billion building that bugger.

Also on the Meastro, my dad had one as well, got it after the marina, and it was a far worse car, yet i liked it because it was very airey and it had a radio cassette in it.

big things in 84....:lol::lol:

lol that Maestro sounds strange there :lol.

They where all looking like Lego-cars, Cubic, and Plastic :p

Wow, the Fast Marinas still think Final Gear is TG's own official forum  . Please use google, my sons.

Bearing in mind they think the Marina is a good car this doesn't surprise me....

Despite it being a tad off-topic, I want to share the experience in my parents' car too. Apparently they didn't have this when I was born, but I don't remember what the had before so I'll stick with this one.

It was a brown Vauxhall Cavalier, the old shape one with flat panels. Apparently they had bought it from a doctor who - get this - had hit someone in it and was banned from driving. And when I say hit I mean the other person wasn't in a car. Because of this it had all the toys you could expect on a C (or was it D?) reg car, like electric windows, electric sunroof and some other shit.

Oh, and I threw up in it too. Oh, and one of the rear dampers came through the turret one year. Then we traded it for a Sierra Tank.

OMG thank you soooo much, i have laughed my ass off the whole way through this thread :lol::lol::lol:

The morris men are just fookin hilarious :p

Look, Im a big fan of 2CV's, and Jezza wrecked one once, but I didnt mind because: 1. Its not MY car being wrecked (as in they didnt steal it from me) 2. I have a sense of humour. I do realize the 2CV aint the most brilliant car ever and takes 25 seconds to get to 100kmh even with the 35hp engine, so I imagine he wouldnt like it, and thats fine. I like this programme called Crash Test Dummies, and they destroy, or atleast badly wreck and again repair a 2CV, but I dont care cause its funny.

But it was the first production car with radial tires, so every example must be preserved!!!!1!!one!eleven.

1. This isn't the official Top Gear website or forum.
2. This is what I, an American that owns a BL-era-design Jaguar and who has had the great misfortune to drive one of the few Marinas exported to the US (as an Austin), think of your favorite cars.

Your cars are worse than Leyland garbage trucks and Bedford sewage carriers. I would rather have swine flu than be forced to drive a Marina ever again in my life. We know you guys have a few parts taken from Jaguars - keep them, we don't want the damn things back. May Lucas cause all your terrible little cars to burst into flames and melt down so future generations can have a life free of the curse of knowing that somewhere Marinas are still on the road.

DAYUM!!!!!

My family had a neighbor who bought a Sterling 825 (Rover 800) back in the early '90s. About 2 weeks after he bought it brand new, the entire electrical system completely stopped working. After this had happened several times, he eventually replaced the original electrical system with one from a Acura Legend, basically the same as the Sterling. I believe he still owns the car, but he doesn't drive it anymore.
