High Definition Playback Guide

Im aware of the streaming option, but I don't have my desktop running anymore and use my Macbook Air, over wifi this sucks and is choppy, and since its Java based its not efficient and my Macbook gets crazy hot and loud.

Plex requires running it off your computer as it's also a server.

Handbrake sounds like your best option: http://handbrake.fr/
