Yep, The Times site finally stopped giving me 404 errors so I started to read todays review on the SLK 55 AMG...

What follows are the first few paragraphs.

The first three weeks of Ford GT ownership were not happy. Its alarm went off constantly, the anti-theft tracker cried wolf every five minutes and the satellite navigation system caused the engine to think it might be a dishwasher of some kind. So I sent it away and demanded my money back.

This didn?t go down well with the readership of The Sunday Times. Every day my in-box was choked with more and more missives from angry people saying I?d been too rash, that I?d waited 40 years for this car and shouldn?t have given up because of some small electronic glitches.

You were right, of course, so I?m delighted to say that it?s back, sitting in my drive looking all blue and huge.

They?ve fixed the alarm by winding down the sensitivity of the sensors. Now you could host a showjumping competition in there and the siren would remain mute. They?ve fixed the tracker by turning it off. And I don?t know how they fixed the sat nav, but whatever they did it only lasted a mile before the engine warning light came on again.

Who cares? This sort of thing is bound to happen on a car that?s right out there at the technical limits of what?s possible. The mistake I made before is thinking the big Ford could be an everyday car, and it can?t. It?s for when the sun is shining and the roads are quiet. It?s a car for high days and holy days. For Tuesdays and wet November days and negotiating-mini-roundabout days I needed some back-up. I needed something else.

Common sense has prevailed in the world of Jeremy Clarkson! He's gonna get a ribbing about the GT (again) from JM and Hamster. Brilliant!

Ridiculous imo... :?

He should have gone for the gt-r (e type jag would've been a nice choice, but dont think good for a daily driver). That merc doesnt have anything unique, and is a fancy show off car -> Uncool!
 
Not sure its a good idea to advertise that the alarm sensitivity is set low and that the Traker is off! :shock:

Bit surprised he took the Ford GT back...bit surprised he bought one in the first place. He shoulda held onto it for a year and made profit on it$$.
 
So did I want a Range Rover or a Honda S2000? I like the way the S2000's engine revs, but could I tell people at parties that I drove a Honda? And similarly I liked the idea of how a Range Rover would irritate the hippies, but the BBC's underground car park has Berliner-sized spaces. And 4x4s won't fit.

I really think Clarkson spends too much time worrying about other people think than actually enjoying the fine cars he has at his disposal. Either he's doing this for comedic value, or he's in actuality a hypocrite that says what he wants to without giving a shit yet worries about it at the same time. I desperately hope it's the former because I like Clarkson as much as the next guy here.

I knew he'd take back the GT, though. Good job! :thumbsup:
 
yea... thats not the clarkson I know, the one I know is the one who doesn't give a shit about what people thinks about him.. but I guess telling people you drove a Honda is pushing the limit :D

Well, only a couple have been delivered, and I guess 3 max will be in blue... Everybody knows who it belongs to.
You can steal and then trash it, but nothing else...

I'm really satisfied with this tid bit of news all of a sudden..... It really has made my day.

He should have the car of his dreams, his hero-car his childhood dream car.

I just noticed this: the Ford GT is faster than the all new F430. Take THAT Ferrari! :evil:

*So now he has an SLK55 and an SL55 ?
* Why is James "ferociously unreliable" ?

no he sold the SL55 to get the GT. now he's getting an SLK55.
where is this money coming from?? the SLK55 is pretty expensive! he could've gotten a 430 with the combined price of the two.

1.to date jeremey clarkson is the highest paid motoring reporter. some say that he makes 1,000,000 Sterling a year!!!!! but nobody knows for sure.

2.besides he drives lots of fast and expensive cars so the ferrari isn't so incredible to him. he wants to get only cars that he really falls in love with....

and by the way: Good job Jezza. enjoy it and stop being so nit-picky for once in your life....
