For those of you not watching the news, a JetBlue Airways A320 just set down at LAX with a twisted front landing gear. Perfect, beautiful landing, my props to the pilots who managed to bring this A320 in without incident (other than burning 2/3 of the wheel up).

Currently looking for videos and pictures of the landing...

That poll is somewhat...biased. I Do agree but choices from having the guys babies (which 95% of us on the fourms can't do) or Rock is nice in all but you have to wonder how it happened or how they noticed

I heard it happened on take off, probably when they rotated. Their instruments warned them of some kind of problem, and it was probably spotters on the LAX tower that saw the landing gear (turned full right lock).

Also, to note, this is the first accident or otherwise adverse event in JetBlue's history.

An odd coincedence:

This was flight 292. JetBlue has 292 flights a day.

Thats amazing, Great pilots, true professionalism. And the straight line that it followed was stunning ! :)

Great landing...but I watched every news channel here in the L.A./Kern County area..and all the experts they got on the news told them they were blowing everything way out of proportion. The landing according to avaition experts & pilots said that it was a very simple and managable emergency landing, and that airbus's in the past have had these kind of mechanical problems.

Great landing nontheless, didn't move barely a foot left/right from the middle of the flight line. we (Edwards AFB) were offering them to land here, since we have a dozen paved & lakebed flightlines that the shuttle/secret/test planes land on so they could get rid of the publicity since airspace around here is restricted, burn more fuel in a shorter time. Woulda been nice to have gotten some pics if it came here.

pff, what happened, the wheel turned, big deal. it's not like they lost a wing or sth

and the pilots, what did they do? the thing they normally do, with all their wheels working, and they just hoped nothing bad would happen

why do they get so much credit? they just did what they're payed to do

and i'd rather be watching my own plain than just be hoovering around knowing nothing. one of the passengers said it as well, everybody got scared when 10mins before landing, TV connection was disabled

^ well as far as i noticed they tried to keep to nose up in the air as long as possible, while slowing down as much as possible. im not a pilot or an aviation expert, but i think they did a nice job.

They did a spectacular job. It appeared from the TV footage they were trying to keep as much weight on the working rear wheels as long as they could, in order to drop as much speed as they could before touching the front down. It could have been worse had they not done that, as its possible the front gear supports could have failed. The pilots did everything right, and they should be commended for it.

As for the people watching it on TV, they have control over those TVs, they didn't have to watch it if they didn't want to. Thats one of the selling points of JetBlue, they have DirecTV on their flights. If I were in the situation, I would much rather see what's going on and why the plane is spending 2 hours circling an airport instead of the unknown. I would have liked to know that the plane only had problems with it's landing gear. It's possible to take this lightly, because in reality its a minor malfunction, in which everyone survived with no injuries.

Also there's FAA regulations that onboard entertainment systems must be disabled below 10000 feet, so as they were lining up for final approach, they likely disabled the entertainment system as per regulations.

Proper term is called 'flaring'. Sometimes comercial jets will use the technique when landing. Military fighters tend to use it more often. Essentially you're using the wings to produce more drag and slow you down. Even though you are on the ground, the wings are still producing enough lift to keep the nose up. Once the lift (and the speed) start dropping, the nose will come down.

This is horrible! Did you hear about those people on the plane who watched it from a local news coverage on the onboard entertainment system?! How could you take this incident so lightly and jokingly...

I really don't think anyone is joking about it, true some are taking it more lightly than others, but they might not grasp the gravity of the situation as well as others. Like myself, I go to an aviation school, where its 50% pilots 50% engineers, and <.1% anything else. So granted I have a little more insight into what's going on (and those news castors on CNN are a bunch of morons...)
