how to burn top gear episodes to dvd?

I am using nero 7 ultra to burn top gear episodes onto dvds. When i burn them the video plays in slow motion and the audio plays a regular speed.
WTF am i doing wrong here?

1) buy this DVD player (or one similar) --->

2) burn .avi file (divx or xvid) to a cd and stick it in the player


...otherwise, i dont know. i use Toast 7 on a mac to convert xvid to DVD every once in a while, and it is simply drag and drop.

I have a DVD-AVI player Chilli/Yamada, and I bought it to play AVI on a large screen and the problem I had with it was that the audio and the video started fine then the video would stop for a mili second every so often and the sync between the two because very noticeable. Encoding the avi with a Divx encoder and it worked fine. By far the best way is to play AVI's though a X-Box works with everything perfectly.

Failing that I use Allisoft AVI to DVD converter, works but is time consuming.

i think there is also an utility called Avi2DVD that i have used before... sound familiar to anyone?
