How to change video format

Hey.
Quick question, I have downloaded Top Gear torrents and they have saved in .avi format. Im trying to burn them to a disc but windows movie maker dosent recognise the format. Just wondering if there is a way to change the format from .avi to .wmp in an attempt to burn them.
