How to encode decent Video on a mac?

I was wondering how people here encode video on a mac to make it a reasonible size. I've been collecting DVD disc images on my external HD but the size is quite large compared to the ~ 700 meg copies I can get off mininova that have about the same quality.

So, does anyone have any recomendation for compression utilities on a Mac? (I already have QT Pro 7)

Does the divx or xvid encoder work for mac?

Use Handbrake

i will second third and fourth handbrake. it'll do MP4 in various flavors (FFmpeg XVID h.264) and is is Apple Easy?
