How to remove a speed limiter?

on S class mercedes...

250 kph and you wanna go faster?

I hope that you don't get done for speeding m8.

Maybe you live in Germany.

It'd be interesting to know how fast an s class can really go

I heard rumours that with an S-Class you can still accelerate with the cruisecontrol lever when the limiter kicks in, but honestly I do not believe that. It's just an urban myth :D
The easiest is to get the ECU software changed or the whole ECU. Companies like Brabus, Carlsson and Lorinser do that. Also AMG but they only raise the limit.

try an ECU from a different trim of the same car. the S14 240SX is limited at around 122, but with an automatic ECU from the same car there is no limit. :D

i have a feeling that all mercs have limiters on their ECUs since all most all of them are designed to highway cruisers

true - as with BMW and Audi (though it seems some of the limiters can be a little, er, relaxed in their enforcement)

I guess this is no longer important as Mercedes and BMW will no longer limit the top speed in their new cars.

Wait when did that happen?

Its not like anyone will reach 155+ anytime soon on the roads

I read it in a newspaper 3 days ago.

why wouldnt they reach these speeds in Germany?

see no reason...

Yeah, this is news to me too.. I couldn't find anything to confirm it either.

I did 160 just 2 days ago. ;)

it surely is mph
...160 kmh is just normal cruisin speed on the autobahn, nothing a german would mention :p

I'm so jealous of you Germans! Your drivers get proper training to drive at that speed plus the quality roads to do it on!

If you try to go above 100mph on American highways, you'll surely crash or fall into one of many pits and holes on the road. Speed limits are there because the roads weren't engineered for cars to go faster. We, Americans, have the excuse that "licensed" drivers here get no adequate training at all!

The 155mph limit is most likely put there because the car gets very unstable beyond that speed. If they spent more money to make the car safe enough at 155+ for typical drivers, then they can take off the limiter. It might be cool to drive at 200mph, but normal street cars begin to fly off the road at those kind of speeds. (Wings and spoilers on road cars do NOT generate net downforce. They are only efficient enough to minimize lift. So there is still net lift on the car.) I can't even steer my car at 130mph because the front end lifts up too high.

So modify your car heavily before going about defying the people who engineered your car!

I think I heard Clarkson saying once that it was a gentlemens agreement with the 'green' political parties? Well anyway, for people who don't live near unrestricted stretches of highways, can't you visit trackdays on circuits? :)

I've witnessed Porsches doing well over 155 on the highway.

I don't know of a Porsche that has a speed limiter - it's only BMW, Merc, and Audi
