Is there some sort of train taht directly connect tehse two points? Like an overnight train?

Or are there cheap flights flying between the two?

http://www.ryanair.com

very cheap flights

but only takes off from eindhoven, and only lands in pisa, rome (29?) or milan (32?), no venice

You would need to check the dutch train website... I don't know their name, nor would I understand it, but it is highly likley that there is such a train!!!

according to the website of the german railway, there is no direct connection between the two and the dutch railway doesn't seem to know venice.

dutch airline KLM brings you to venice for 250? though, while a train fare would probably be only a little less and take at least 18 hours with various changes.

:lol:

KLM: 250?
ryanair: 29?

There is no way there's a direct train to Venice from Amsterdam. Flight is definitely the easiest and cheapest option. Even if you decide to take a train, I'm pretty sure you will end up paying the same or even more than a KLM flight.

The only way you could get to Venice eventually, if you really insist on train is to use ICE and than the Italian version of the "bullet" train (dunno what that was called). I'm pretty sure there's an ICE from Amsterdam to Frankfurt, from there down to Munich there should be ICE as well, and from there to Venice there might be one, not sure at all about the last one though. But well, if you go with ICE, tickets won't be cheap. My guess is AMS -> Frankfurt would be around 100ish euros, probably another 60-70 to Munich, and god knows how much more to Venice.

Really, flight is your option!

thats without taxes and starts in the middle of nowhere. ;)

they appearently fly regularily from brussel to venice though, so the best way seems to be to take the train from amsterdam to brussel and then ryanair. that would be 50? for the flight (30+20 tax) and the train shouldn't be more than 50 either.

did you check the prices for the very day you want to fly? they often have cheap offers, but only on certain days, most of the time the price is two or three times as high. also check whether that includes tax, they usually exclude that without telling you.

Call Clarkson and see if he has some sort of car vs. other transportation race. :p

There is no way you can beat a direct flight on a distance longer than 500km, with only minor usage of trains and buses.

Yep, you can't beat a direct flight!

Go to airpot + check in = 1-2 hours max
flight = 1&1/2hours
get your laguage, get into city etc, another 1h
total = 4-5hours max!

1200-1300km with car, is way more than 5hours. ;)
