Unlike many Americans, I have driven in Japan and Europe. Often it was in city centers were traffic is heavy, space is limited, and the opportunity to go where you like is very limited.
I tend to drive the same on the wide open roads of the States. I drive very efficiently, but also very quickly. I take turns fast. I plan my route carefully to minimize driving distance. You can say I make full use of the law's limits. I am not like the other American drivers who take it easy as if they're lounging on a couch. I always have my full attention to the act of driving. Therefore, I'm fast and safe at the same time.
To others, this driving style seems very aggressive and fast. However, I've heard many of my friends say that I am the best driver they know. Even though I'm fast, I haven't been in a single accident (on public roads) during my 7 years of driving. [knock, knock!] I think it helps to be a motorcyclist. It makes you more aware as a driver.
When it's safe, I treat the street like my private road circuit. Powerslides at 60mph? Those are common on wide open roads with no traffic.
