Hypothetical garage: Pick any 2 new cars on sale today for the rest of your lives.

So long, and thanks for all the fish

A friend of mine was visiting over the weekend and as car guys do, we got to talking about what cars we would buy if we won the lottery. As has been the case for a long time, the first two cars I'd buy on the spot would be a used Koenigsegg One:1 and a used G63-AMG 6x6. But that got us thinking..... if you could only buy 2 NEW cars from a dealer TODAY, what would they be? As a further challenge we also that you will own these two for the rest of your life, and you can never get anything else.

So.... to summarize.

1. You can choose any two new cars.
2. They must be available to purchase from a dealer now. You cannot wait for a rumored new model or upgraded version to come on sale later.
3. You must live with these 2 cars and only these 2 cars for the rest of your life.
4. You cannot keep anything you currently have. You can never buy anything else.

So my answer. Took me a long time to come up with, and went through several iterations, but I'm fairly happy with this garage.

1. Weekends
Lamborghini Huracan Preformante

2. Daily
Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo Turbo S E-Hybrid

Yes, I'd own a hybrid. That was actually my friends answer for his daily car and it took me a while to understand. But it has a twin turbo V8, a combined 680hp and 626lb-ft. 0-60 in the same time as a 911 GT3 and is faster than any non-hybrid Turbo Panamera. Sexy sexy wagon body. Room for 4 + some stuff. The electrification fills in the gaps in the powerband that the turbo misses. Oh and did I mention its super sexy looking?

As much as I'd love a Koenigsegg, the Agera is out of production and sold out now and they're onto the Regara. I'm not sure I'm sold on the direct drive powertrain yet and the looks still need to grow on me. While the Huracan has a screaming V10, insane active aero trickery making it a track beast and is drop dead gorgeous inside.

My buddy's answer for his 2nd car was a Pagani Huayra BC roadster.

That's a tricky call... Daily is easy though: 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, but which one for the fun? I just cannot deside.
For my daily I would have a Ford F150 Raptor.

And for my fun car it would be a Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, with the manual gearbox.

Since these will be the only vehicles I'll ever own, I'm going to be fairly practical. Both could fill the daily driver role, but one does truck things, the other does skiddy things.

Trick is a 6.2 gas model. Thinking there is I'd rather not pay for $10k injector pump replacements in the diesel.

Sort of disappointed that the RS no longer comes in the grey color, but I can live with blue.
Brand new cars eh? One of these is obvious.

2018 Dodge Charger 392 (Daytona or Scat Pack does not matter):

2018 RAM 2500 Power Wagon:
1. BMW M550i touring
2. Porsche 911 GT3 touring

Interesting, two "touring"-models, but two very different concepts...

I want to say "Giulia QV and MX-5", but neither of them are an estate, which is kind of a must for practicality. So the Alfa would have to go and instead... hm, Alpina B5 touring. Also, if money doesn't matter, replace the MX-5 with a 911 convertible.

It's really tricky if you are going to be serious about the "for the rest of your life" part. I will probably need to drive a million km still. And diesels will probably be more or less banned in 10 years time, ICE and manual drivning in 20-30 years. I guess I could rent or lease whenever what I choose is obsolete...

1) Land Rover Range Rover Autobigraphy SWB. The "short" wheel base one is plenty big. Dark green, tan interior. Probably the hybrid V6 since it will have access to the cities the longest.

2) 991.2 GT3 Touring, manual gearbox. Maybe just bright silver and then wrap in different colours to keep it fresh. The fastest PDK or 20 kg downforce isn't going to matter in 10 years.

For those days when I have a death wish.

You just can't find a more visceral, analog experience from a brand-new car.
Engine: Supercharged 2.0 litre Ford Duratec
Max Power (bhp): 310 @ 7,700rpm
Max Torque (lbs ft): 219 @ 7,350rpm
Weight: 572kg
0-60mph: 2.79 seconds
Power-to-weight: 568bhp-per-tonne
Top speed: 155mph

To counterbalance that, the other car would be also a Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid Sport Turismo. I want all the bells and whistles, and I want to be pampered and drive 8 hours without feeling tired.

Yes, Amethyst Metallic.
Car 1, sporty family sedan - a nobrainer for me, really - Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio:

Light blue metallic, silver wheels, black leather/alcantara interior with red stitching and normal front seats, normal brakes

Car 2, required a bit of thinking, but I decided to go with the best looking SUV on the market since like forever - the Range Rover Velar:

White-ish with Black-pack, black rims and roof, tan interior, nearly every option
Daily driver: Porsche Macan Turbo

Weekend fun car: Ruf CTR (but not necessarily in yellow...)

What can I say? I'm a sucker for Porsches (and their derivatives).

I’m thinking a Volvo XC90 Excellence T8. Plenty of space and practicality for just about anything. And it’s a plug-in hybrid so maybe I can still drive my $100k SUV when they outlaw gasoline. And I just don’t like Tesla enough to be saddled with an X for the rest of my life.

Then I’d go Aston Martin V12 Vantage S. V12, rwd, stick, it’s already old fashioned
