Well, actually that would not be a problem at all...they don't stop mechanical things or electronic devices.
They only stop something when it has the four elements a bomb should have. One of them is organic material, like semtex (or soap )...the second one is the detonator and so on...
When there are only 3 of the 4 elements, they cannot stop it from going on the aircraft , because it just is not a bomb and therefore cannot explode. Even if it looks ultra complicated and they don't know what it is.

they do in north america. when i travel with my laptop i have to turn it on to show them. same with my mp3 player
