OK, I don't have the picture of the scratch/crack yet, but i'll post that later.

Today this morning when leaving for school (keep in mind im only 17) I was backing up when I hit my neighbors car (parked on the street). Now theres a crack on my rear bumper and just a scratch on his front one. This was usually a daily routine for me, but I dont know what happened today...i mean im usually always very careful! I dont know what I should do because my parents dont know yet (im at school rite now). Should I just buy a new bumper, take it to the shop, or what? I mean, i dont think its that big of a scratch so how much do u think it'll be?

You should have left a note on the car you hit. If they're nice about it they might not report it.

What kind of car were you driving?

I think you should tell your parents/neighbor. They'll probably apreciate the honesty. ;)

crack in the bumper shouldn't be a problem... depending on what kinda car your driving you can get a used one from a self-pull for pretty cheap and they are usually not that hard to get off... and as everyone said you should have left a note... and definitely tell your parents / neighbor when you get home.. chaces are if the damage is minimal then they won't report it

Yes. This is the only way to do it. They may be pissed off when you tell them, but it's good that they hear it from you. It's rather inconvenient when they notice the damage and no one has told them anything...

As of now, you have committed a crime. It's called a hit and run. If I were you I'd talk to your neighbour and your parents.

Listen to Mischief. That's the only right thing to do. Tell them the truth. Every other action you take would make matters worse.
I don't know how your justice system works but most likely a report needs to be filed before they'll search for the offender. If you act now and tell your neighbour the truth you should get away with it.

maybe offer to repair it. they probz say nah its ok. in fact write a letter telling them what happen. they probz let u off. if not take their car to repair and trash it while u at it. e.g burn outs

BTW, now that were talking about hit and runs...
One my friends parked his car and went shopping. When he came back, he noticed that there was a huge hole in his bumper. Then there was a phone number attached to the windshield wiper. He called the number, but it wasn't a real one... :x

Some people really can be shameless. Maybe that fucker thought that, hey, I leave a number here, so every one who saw me hitting that car don't bother remembering my license plate, they think I'm very honest.

Very cunning, calculating and rude.

So, it would be very wise and well-mannered to confess that it was you who hit the car. :)

No, it would be self-preservation. The police or his neighbour will figure out in no time, that it was him who hit the car.
You have a chance of getting away with a hit and run if you bump into someone at a mall, but on your own driveway ?

i remember on holiday my family stoped at a supermarket and we parked our rental car. my sister bashed the door into another persons car, so my dad drove round the other side of the parking lot and parked there instead lol

My car is a 2003 Honda Civic Si, and when I got home from school I told my neighbor. And the neighbor isnt "old' or anything, hes only 2 years older than me. He was rather cool about the whole situation because his car only had minor scratches. But as for my rear bumper....

Good to hear. I'm glad you did that. So everything is cool now and all you have to do is either repair a bumper or find a new one from a salvage yard.

That was the best you could do I guess, I've been in such situations where I was too scared to tell anyone and they found out later interigating (sp?) me and I had to admit...

Wasn't very cool but I learnt from that.

Yeah it felt so much better telling him. I cant tell you how slow school went today because it was in my head all day. But this wasnt the first time I had an incident with the same neighbor. About a summer ago, my friends and I were playing catch and all of a sudden a high pop-up hits the rear windshield of their mom's camry. That was actually worse because another neighbor saw us do it, so we had no choice to tell them right away or else the other neighbor would have called the cops. Being a teenager sucks! but at least i had a job to pay for 1/3 of the window (friends paying the other 2/3)

Yeah, if you're just being honoust they will let you off easier next time, if you lie about the thing, next time they will call the cops.

When I was little (like 13) I was throwing rocks at a friend just for fun, we were playing rockball, he had a stick from the woods and called it a bat. But anyway I was throwing these kinda heavy rocks high in the air and somehow I wanted to show off and throw it in the air as high as possible, but I didn't really notice the Ford Escort behind him behind the bushes. So at first we hoped it didn't hit, but when we got closer I was really shocked the whole roof was damaged, HUGE dent and paintwork was screwed.

We ran away and somehow I told my parents and they locked me in their room untill I wanted to apologize. I didn't want to apologize, was too ashamed, so after prolly 2 or 3 days in my room (still going to school, but right after that, back to room again) I decided to apologize. That was a huge relief! Maybe too because I could now finally watch tv again. ;)

Good job bud, I fucking hate hit-and-runners with a passion. I always park at the end of a parking lot, it doesn't matter how far I have to walk. As long as there's no assholes next to me waiting to scratch my door up, again and again.

And the bumper shouldn't cost much. I totalled the body work on the front end of my car, and because there was no damage to the engine, it didn't cost much. The bumper was the cheapest to fix.

Lol, doesn't your dad work for an insureance company?

The damage to your car isn't what matters, it's if there's any damage to the other car. If there is, you gotta tell at least them and your parents probably too.
