today i finally did my first skydive and i will without a doubt do it again. i was originally supposed to go like 2 weeks ago but the weather didnt cooperate with us. well today i jumped from 13,000 ft and an AFF(accelerated free fall) so i was in free fall untill 5500 ft. man that was a rush. ill post some pics tomorrow and i may be able to post a video but that wont be for a while. i suggest to anyone to do it. it was so much fun that i already paid for my next jump.

congratulations... weren't you the one who backed out at the end because you were scared or was it someone else  ... now Roman has a e-skydiving buddy

congrats dude... i'd love to do it too.. but don't have the resources or the contacts..

no i never backed out because of my nerves. i was suprised because i wasnt even nervous. i was just really excited because ive always wanted to do this but you have to be 18. the original plan was to jump may 30 because my 18th b-day was may 29.

They let you jump alone the first time?

I always wanted to do it, but I didn't want to have a dude straddling me on the way down.

i did it a couple of weeks ago it got sick on the parachute part but the free fall was great.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering... I mean, I know he's had training now, but I'd still think baby steps would be best and to watch in person how to do it. Plus, what if you freaked out as it was your first time mid-air and then couldn't pull the cord or whatever?

Do you get that nerve wrenching feeling like diving on a rollercoaster at free fall? That's prolly the only thing stopping me from doing this.

first of all i had 6 hours of classes before we jumped. second, there were 2 instructers that jumped with me and held on to me during free fall. third, there was someone guiding me down over a radio so i landed in the right spot. lastly, i refused to go tandom. it was either alone or not at all.

but besides that i was surprised that i wasnt nervous. the instrusters made small talk with you in the plane to stop you from thinking about it too much. i think that helped me a lot. and actually since you are so high up, you dont feel like you are falling at all. in free fall it was very comfortable because all you had to do was relax and you had a good arch.

Very nice.. But parachutes now have an auto deploy function built into them now right? Because there have been cases where people faint and die because they could not deploy the chutes..

yea i think at 1500 ft they automatically deploy. the experienced jumpers dont even use them though. its expensive to buy if you have your own rig.

*tears of joy in my eyes*

Congrats on having the guts to go for Level 1 AFF on your first jump instead of the tandem progression, that takes balls. ! !

The automatic activation device (from now on referred to as AAD) would activate at 750 ft. if the skydiver was still in freefall for an expert ( as opposed to a student ) and higher for a student rig like the one Patrick here used but I don't remember how high. Cypress and Vigil are two popular brands in the sport.

750 ft at 120mph ( freefall speed on the belly) is three to four seconds before impact. That is way low and no one should ever rely on it to save his life. They work and have saved lives but they are a last resort to a critical problem. In doubt, cut away and pull the reserve yourself is the short answer to a major malfunction.

Some DZs rquire the use of AADs, they are mandatory if you want to jump there. Other let you free to use them or not.

BTW, Patrick your pilot chute is dragging. ;)

And that smile my friends is something I see every time I visit any DZ.
Someone just went past his survival instinct by climbing out the door of a flying aircraft and accomplished the dream of human flight. Beautiful ! :)

omg, I can't wait to turn 18 ... this october ... can't wait
oh, and I also want to have my first flight alone (not in tandem) yet still with an instructor jumping with me.

Oh, and I also love the sensation of falling in a rollercoaster, so having that sensation for more than a fraction of a second should be incredible.
