Hey everybody...

Today I was just driving along in the dark, not on an A road, but a pretty narrow and curvy one...
Then I saw Bambis mother and started to brake... From 120km/h to about 70... Bambis mother ran away... Then I saw Bambi... But it was too late, Bambi got smashed. I feel really bad for her, I like basically all animals except spiders...

So far I've always (like 3 times) been able to brake for animals...

Do you guys have those road accidents a lot? While I was waiting 20 min on the police station for the thingy for the insurance company, 3 other people called or came in because of roadkills...

I almost hit Bambi in the Rockies a couple of years ago. Missed him by less than a foot, it was the exact same situation coming around a bend at night.

I think that's one of the reasons we have such low speed limits in Canada. If you get caught doing 120km/h on a narrow twisty road, they'll take your license away and probably impound your car too. Our narrow twisty roads are usually a 60km/h limit, sometimes 50 or 40 ... and they're a lot less narrow and twisty than anything in Europe. Very little tolerance for even reasonably fast driving, Canadians are expected to lug around in 3rd gear all the time.

Too bad about the deer. Good thing it wasn't a moose (elk?), huh? :|

elk is a big deer, so i guess you could say it was one.
i still dont get how people run over alligators in Florida? it's 8 feet long in many cases!

awwww.......

Bambi was a guy? i don't rember the movie too welll but i swore it was a girl...

We have deer ALL over the place in Georgia (or were i live) most of them go to my backyard and eat the grass...its the same family too...i'll take some pics if they come back

Hahaha! Funniest pics ever!!!

Anyway: It was a quick way for Bambi... 3 twitches and then silence...

Bad thing is: I just watched Dawn of the Dead, which is btw fabulous, and now I realized, I may have some bad dreams at night ;-)

@UKD: Hitting something with a bike is even worse... If its in the woods and you're off the bike going at 100 towards some tree

@Asthenia: We don't have the really big ones in Germany, I believe... But I ain't no hunter!

I race bambis everyday in the morning.. and moose if am lucky ... lots of them in Canada man

I was in the "map readers seat" on one collision with bambis mother (i.e. a fully grown deer). We only hit its hind leg and it limbed away, had to call the cops who arranged some hunter to find it and kill it (hadn't gotten far into the woods...)

That was not a nice experience hope to avoid the next one.

Huh ? !

You didn't see my last ticket a couple years back, huh ?
One of those horrible on-the-move radar mounted inside a semi unmarked SQ cruiser ( you know, the ones with no light bar on top or markings front or back ) came out of a curve in front of me while I was doing more than 130 km/h (spirited driving, I was in the mood :p ). Needless to say he came about and started after me. Took him a while to catch up to me too but eventually did. Got the ticket. 132km/h. Twisty two lane road. Cop was polite ( big surprise ! ) and went on his way once he was done. I took off slowly and was on my way again... Not in the mood anymore with a fine of 212$. :bangin:

They don't impound your car for speeding unless your license is suspended ... what are you talking about ? ?

Sorry for you, Buba, and for Bambi. :( These accidents can be very traumatic. But at least you are OK. It could have been Bambi's father ore some other big animal, and that maybe would have been fatal to you.

Yeah, thanks... Still, as long as I don't hit a really fat cow, my trusty Golf will survive without getting me in danger... The only thing it had give up against so far was a massive stone wall... Damage can be repaired...

^^ actually, even a small deer can kill you because when you hit it it will "jump" onto your hood and then through the windsreen right into your head... Thanks to small legs and high center of gravity of the animals.

I looked it up and you're right. The only way they'll impound your car on the spot is if you're "impaired", or if the car itself is unsafe.

I got nailed somewhere in the middle of northern Ontario doing 129km/h in a 60 zone, coming around a bend. (Broken speedometer in an unfamiliar car, but lesson learned: don't tell the cop that it's broken, that's even more illegal than speeding.)

Hey, if you ever think deer and other wildlife are stupid, try driving in downtown Toronto. The pedestrians are even stupider... :x
