You like?

I dunno if it was a very presentable dish but ... tasted real good

And I was surprised by how easy it was to make too! My GF and I decided to try making our own Maki, since we love it so much. Sushi really aint that hard to make yourself so, we went for Maki :)

What do you think?

dont u just put it in a bamboo roll and roll it up? thats notthat hard ;) u should put some eel and salmon in it :p

well, first off you need:
- sushi rice
- sushi rice vinegar
- sea weed
- ginger leafs
- wasabi
- fresh meat (we used crab stick)
- avocados and/or other fruits/veggies (yes, avocado is a fruit, not a veggie)
- pepper
- sesame seeds
- rolling pad
etc. etc. .....

Now, the trick is to be able to roll it perfectly, which isn't easy peasy ... then slice and dice!

The hardest, is the susch-rice-vinegar+sugar+some salt blend just right ... or the rice and the whole Maki will taste crap if you don't get the blend right ..

I don't like that stuff, although I never ate it but since I'm a n00b at this please enlighten me...

what's the difference between maki and sushi? cause I'd have called that a sushi

i belive that maki is the cheap alturnative to sushi as it has less meat or fish on it and the meat or fish is rolled in the middle of the rice.

sushi is the more expensive one, it has a blob of rice and there is a larger slice of meat or fish on top. normally if u go to japan and u go to a proper shop, the fish is menna be twice the size of the rice.

when i went to japan, we went to a more high class one and the rice was really little and the fish slice was massive, he bill was also massive

I prefer maki because I actually like the rice in the sushi... :D , if theres too much fish, you won't taste anything else

So its rice and fish!!! I thought it was a sweet dish. We (Indian and Pakistanis) have many ways of making rice.... :D ..

The dish above is looking yummy.. i wanna taste that.

not really a cheap alternative just a different style of preperation
maki = the rolled style sushi
Nigiri = slice of fish on top of small rice ball
Temaki = handroll sort of an ice cream cone made of seaweed and filled with raw fish
sashimi = just the raw fish no rice at all

correct ..

you explanation of maki, Nigiri,Temaki, and Sashimi saved me from doin' it myself :D

It didn't take any longer to make than any other dish, really ..

I recomend eeeeveryone to try Sushi (either Nigri/Maki will do)

Most people get stuck on the "it's raw fish, eeeew" statement, but many has been surprised before you!

It's expensive, but definately worth it

yeah but in result to these diff. method;s the prices change becuase the peice of fish is what cost so much.

if ur lazy just make nigiri cos thats the easiest

Nice job, haz. :)

I can relate to making different things like that myself. Lately, I've been getting into making dim sum, egg rolls, spring rolls, shu mai and mapo dofu. Tried fortune cookies, too, but they didn't turn out right. I want to try different variations of dim sum next and get into stir frying more.

Are tose IKEA plates ? I have the same ones in grey.

About Sushi. I have to agree with you guys. It really is delicious. To bad that it's the thing to eat right now. You can only get them at fancy restaurants where they charge a fortune for three pieces.

My former flatmate used to work at a franchise called Sushi Factory. Three times per week he brought alll the sushi that hasn't been eaten back home. I haven't eaten sushi since then. Eating that stuff for one year was enough.
