I want a Renault Twizy!

^ The response in real life is more mixed. :ROFLMAO: :
  • My GF isn't really in it and has more of a "atleast-he-hasn't-bought-a-real-bike" relief. But I bet she will come around and fall in love with it.
  • Some coworkers are outright baffled that I actually bought a old people mobility scooter by the looks of it. But again, I bet after I let them have a go with it, the smiles and the understanding will come.
What was surprising to me during the last two weeks is how few of my peers actually knew about the Renault Twizy in general. I mean the thing is for sale since 2012, and now and then you can spot one, especially in nearby larger (from a swiss perspective) cities like St. Gallen or Zürich. - The different looks I got after I said "well, just google Twizy" while I was explaining the purchase... :ROFLMAO:

Don't think I've seen a single Twizy in Zurich. Zoe probably the smallest before moving to the electric-bikes-with-a-roof specials.

Love what you're doing, but still don't quite get it. Where do you live that the thing makes sense? And the price, damn.

  • How it makes sense: In my case the Twizy doesn't replace a car, it replaces a bicycle that I commuted with in all weather.
  • Granted it's overpriced for what it is, but hey in Switzerland everything costs more. But the higher swiss wages do reflect that. As you know.

Went through my recent photos, and it seems Dino is quite right, I only made two Twizy sightings during the last few years, one in the city of Vaduz (Liechtenstein has the coolest numberplates), and one locally to me gunning it on the Autobahn A13:

Btw, I also found these pics of a Audi S6 V10 I took in 2009 (while I was driving a 1.6L Opel Corsa B at that time) and I never thought I would own this car some day.

I do my current job commute since 2017 (after I've sold my third of the second-hand shop*), and now and then I was thinking of buying a Twizy, but the (by then mandatory) battery lease scheme was always a hurdle/nuisance I had no interests in. But obviously the random test drive I did three weeks ago brought the Twizy back on my map and started my current I-want-this buzz. And only after I already made the first post in this thread I found out that Renault now does sell the battery with the car (from 2021 onwards in Switzerland), and only then my buzz turned from looking at used examples to the option of going for a new one. - Which I will collect in a few hours. :D

*That money is invested and is for buying me a nice sailboat the moment I retire. (y)

Thanks for your nice encouragement in this thread, and I will see you all soon in the Post-your-car section. :)

All good, to know that you have a roof when it rains is a perfectly good reason. And with such a short drive, electric certainly makes more sense than something ice.

It's just that even I had to accept that public transport in Switzerland is crazy good, therefore I was wondering about your specific situation that warrants spending near 20k, rather than taking a bus once in a while. This is coming from someone who mostly travels in the Zurich-Zug-Luzern triangle.

Anyways, I have no intention on raining on your parade and hope you have all the good times with the Twizy.
