Why not start a business who takes orders buliding kit cars?

Not Ferrari replics or shit like that ...

But I heard that it's not legal in Norway, so maybe you guys can't help .. (ppl from Scandinavia, please help!)

What does the law say in you country? Please submit ... cuz I'm serious about this.

It will be me an my brother who will start this together ...

What do you say?

haz

exactly. Imput costs for me and my brother will be minimalistic, as we would pay for the kit car after it was built and sold to the customer ... we would hire highly skilled mechanics and rent a barn or something!

wanna hok me up with a deal ;)

i think norway isn't the country where the best sales for kit cars may be :(

especially when you want sth founded wtih your brother, and want some staff, you'll need quite some money-flow (how's that called in eng?) before you would make any profit

1: How Norway isn't the best country?? Fine, we are rich, but there are still ppl wanting rare, fast cars for a nice price :)

2: We need start capital, sure, my bro covers that. I have the marketing background, my brother has the knowledge for berau-shit ... he has owned many businesses over the past 10 years ...

And then we need a barn outside of Oslo for cheap rent, and some skilled mechanics which are tired of repairing Fords and Toyotas!

What part isn't legal, building, selling, driving.......?

That's a good idea Haz.

Would you import the materials from an African manufacturer like Noble does and assemble them in Norway?

I think the key would be to find retired mechanics/hobby racers to assemble the cars because they enjoy it (to save $$).

You could also rent a track and have your own racing series... 8)

well, that's what I'm not so sure of!

I have googled my arse offff today, and have come up with alllot of info on this matter ...

1: "You must crash test at least two of the cars"

2: Aloooooooooooot of paper work for each of the cars to recieve approval for them

3: The car must be approved by a lab-person on the matter or the manufacturer in charge (ie.e Westfield)

4: Westfield (for Norway at least) is easier to get approval of getting built, for some reason ...

What does your law say mgkdk? I have given you a mission, don't fail me :p

1: No, more like Radical/Westfield etc ... and assemble them ourselves, making our profit from that ..

2: Yes! I have the same oppinion on that! Wouldn't it be cool for a mechanic with years of experience to do something else than fixing old Fords?

3: Racing series ... *drooool* I see it now: "Welcome to Haz's annual Kit Car race" OH YESS!!!! :D

My PR-professor is actually a boardmember of "KNA" (Norways automobile racing something association) maybe he could help :)

I'll check after my exam on tuesday, I have enough stuff in my head as it is :?

ok, I appreciate it ... I know for fact that both Sweden and Denmark are more liberal on the matter .... damn the state of Norway .... some say Norway is the last communist state ... sometimes it is true ........

Nice idea if you can get it to work. I've thought about doing the same in Finland but since I am unsure about the legistlation (like you) and the market is really small I doubt it would be viable here. About a year ago Robin Hood cars (kit car manufacturer in the UK) was for sale and man were my fingers itching to buy it, we were seriously considering talking to the banks for a business loan with a mate of mine...

I think MXM pointed out in some thread that there are westfields in Finland that are registered so I suppose there is a way to make them legal, but how much work and effort goes into it I dunno...

Also there is some opportunity for differentiation, once you've estabished yourself in the market and have your operation running smoothly you could always add more models to your line-up (maybe even go down that Ferrari/Mr-2 road) or develop your own Norwegian "mean machine".

If you ever need work force for your company just give me a call and I'll be on the next plain to Oslo :D

i haven't been there, but the image i have is that it consists of hills most of the year covered in snow, and a kit car is cold, wet and slippery

wouldn't a business in snow scooters be more profitable?

i'm not totally sure, but i think 9/10 new companies fail in the 1st year...sorry for the bad news

Well, not everyone lives above the arctic circle, here in Oslo it's nice and dry from say april - november, and remember, british people love convertibles even though it rains most of the time.

I think the biggest problem is the lack of racetracks, I can only think of Rudskogen and Arctic raceway.

How about specializing in AWD kit cars? If you could build a kit car that would be good even in snow and in slippery conditions, it would definitely separate it from the competition. If you're serious about the idea haz, I think you'd need more than just mechanics to build the cars though. You'd need a few good engineers to design the cars too.

I have been searching my but off, and (tried to) read some danish laws :?
So far I haven't found much.
If for some (stupid) reason the cars should be registred in Denmark, this is it.
and if it is registred you should pay this aswell, and insurance, and it has to pass this.

I haven't found anything about building them, or import/export.
