That does look remarkably similar, here's another angle,It's unlikely to be modified if it's a Baur TC, it looks standard apart from the wheels. BMW didn't make their own convertible E30 until 1987 apparently, before that Baur would convert a 2-door car. They also did this with the earlier E21 3-series.
It happened a lot back then, if the manufacturer didn't make a version of a car (like a convertible, an estate car or a 4-door version in the case of the original Range Rover) there was probably a company who would sell the conversion to customers with lots of money.
I think I found an old ad for that exact car. Listed as a Baur TC2 and those are definitely Alpina wheels.
