Idiots + cars = LOL

A Trump maneuver that leads to something getting grabbed.

For some reason I read "handshake" turn at first. What would a handshake turn be?

When you're riding a motorcycle and grab someone's hand and pivot around said person? :dunno:

this guy was stopped by the cops

he stole the poles somewhere, and was drunk...

A guy in a 4WD found a disabled and abandoned Honda CR-V out in the Arizona desert. The driver left notes asking for help and saying he was going to try to walk to safety, he left his phone since there was no service and recorded his Last Will and Testament on it.

Idiot checklist:

  • Following GPS/Map blindly
  • No water
  • No food
  • No shelter
  • Leaves the vehicle
  • Doesn't inform anyone where he is going
  • When he leaves the vehicle, he leaves his only form of communication. He could have gotten cell service while walking and called for help.
  • Inappropriate vehicle for the conditions

Wait... wait....BINGO!

I'm just surprised that he made it out alive. Usually these end in "And then his body was found five miles in the opposite direction."

Reminds me of the missing German tourists in Death Valley. Almost 10 years after they disappeared the finally found skeletal remains.

Wasn't it more than a decade later or was it a different set of Germans that disappeared in 96 and were officially found in 09? The latter is entirely possible, of course. The desert Southwest kills or 'disappears' a surprising number of people (often tourists) all by itself every year.

Why in the hell do people who go out of civilization NOT bring some sort of a radio with them? A CB and/or a HAM radio can come in very handy where no cell towers are present. Then again this guy had no supplies whatsoever and took a POS CR-V somewhere it doesn't belong. Wonder how much a satellite phone would be to rent...

They assume that because you get GPS on their street, they get it everywhere.

There has to be someone to receive the signal, and most handheld transceivers have a short range(3 miles at best)in what is already a desolate area. There is also the fact that things like CB radios have declined in popularity, so it is even less likely to find someone on the other side. A sattelite phone would be better.

Can you access police channels on a CB? That'll get someone's attention real quick. :)

No.

You do get GPS everywhere ;) Hence the G part :p The problem is that most people don't use offline maps but rather rely on their cell connection to dynamically load up maps.

Most emergency services still use radios, park rangers for example, and who said it has to be purely hand held can always have a vehicle mounted antenna. Also while you are right they take very little energy to work as receivers so you can have it on and listen for some common frequencies in the area so that as soon as you get one you can call for help. A smartphone with no cell reception drains it's battery very quickly looking for network. Though you could have it on airplane mode and check periodically.

CB doesn't but HAM radios do (like say the Baofeng UV5 range)

Well, yeah. I was more referring to "maps not loaded."
