Idiots + cars = LOL

Would you like some of the incidents I've personally experienced where I either wanted a gun or was glad I had one? "Rare" is subjective and entirely based on the environment, what is rare in the 'burbs is a Tuesday in the 'hood. A gun doesn't have to be fired to end a situation. My brother was nearly hit by a beat up old van some years ago while driving his STI. He honked as a warning, swerved, and evaded the crash. The driver of the van took offense to this and proceeded to try to ram him several times - he finally pulled into a service station with cameras and the van followed. Five guys jumped out, one with a screwdriver and one with a tire iron. My brother drew his sidearm and prepared to defend himself, holding the pistol at low-ready. The five potential assailants scampered back to the van and took off. No one was hurt, no shots were fired but the gun was absolutely the tipping point.

I've driven through plenty of sketchy areas and was as glad I was carrying just in case, but only one time I consciously thought about how I would access my firearm. Long story short I'm fairly certain I came very close to a carjacking but situational awareness kept me safe. It was unnerving enough for me to untuck my shirt from behind the seatbelt. Honestly, the best part about being armed is that it's taught me a ton about situational awareness and deescalation.

Anyways, if five dudes with bats are smashing up my car and I have no way to drive away, the first one to break a window is getting shot. Hopefully everyone can agree that that's very much a life-threatening situation and you can act in self-defense (I'm assuming that the BMW driver didn't provoke this somehow, as there seems to be no indication that he might've).

Family member had this happen the other day.

I just don't get it. Do these people think "Eh, I'll take my chances"?

More like, what is going on on FB... D'oh!

Yeah I'm willing to be it was just inattention. He didn't notice the red light, didn't notice the car in the next lane stopped, didn't notice cars across the street stopped, didn't notice cross traffic moving... Completely oblivious. I see obliviots every day and the scare the crap out of me.

I noticed after reading the youtube comments: the thief just fixed the car's headlight with a single hit from his hammer. Clarkson would say this is proof that he's always been right, after all.

"We have money for a nice new ST1300 Police package, but not an officer to ride it."

This is pretty common in small towns, there was a place in Colorado that had an old 1980s police car with the gumball machine light on top they would park at the edge of down with a dummy inside to get traffic to slow down.

Carjackers threaten Mother & Daughter!
South Africa

Very sad to see things like that happening. Very glad to see that the mother reacted in a way that punished the criminals -hard-. She was lucky, though: they didn't want to use the gun.

This being South Africa, I bet the SUV is armored and the bad guys know that.
